That IS basically what I was trying to say, though. You don't pay unless you make above a certain amount ($12,000). If all you get is SS, you do not pay taxes on it. My SO does not make $12000 so he does not pay income taxes. What I make does not enter into it since we are not legally allowed to file a joint return.
