Who Doesn't pay any Income Tax

pips&peeps :

Well my husband paid over 30,000.00 in taxes last year and made less than the average amount given in the top 10 percent.................

When we were self-employed we had a similar issue. It was mostly because of the self-employment tax. It was painful, that's for sure.

pips&peeps :

I'm putting off taxes as long as possible again this year.........................

We sent in our Fed because, shock of shocks, we actually get a little back (first time in 10 years), but we are sitting on the state return until April

Huh!!! That was true when I got my ss # at 14, back in 1978! Again with DD number one, 21 years ago, but I could not enter her in school without a SS#. But 15 years ago with DD number two her SS # was set up for issue immediately at the hospital.

So I don't know, how long ago did you get a SS#?

You don't HAVE to get it at the hospital. That is actually just a little something they do to be nice. You can fill out the form and they mail it for you. A lot of people think they HAVE to fill it out then, however, and they don't always tell you any different. However, if you leave without naming your child first you have to do it later. You can also choose to do it later. But yeah, they have to have one to go to school.

You have to have you ss # before you can be claimed on anyones taxes this was change a while back. I know that when I was born that you didn't need it until you looked for work. but when I had children you needed it to claim them on the years taxes

Oh yeah, that too!!! How funny I forgot that on a thread about TAXES of all things!!! LOL

the wealthy maybe pay a payroll tax of about 38% sounds like they pay more thay the avg. joe. but they pay only 7% ss tax on the first 100,000 or so. I pay 7% ss tax on 100% of my pay. also they have many deductions when they file at end of year. they pay maybe 21 to 23%. anyway if i made 2mil a year I would be happy to pay 50% tax rate. I would still have 1 mil to live on. some people say I would mine paying that much because I worked for it.
but they are wrong. someone should pay me that and I would prove them wrong. also ss tax and fica tax goes in one big pot and checks are wrote

Or (at least until this last year) you could claim no exemptions and figure out what your taxes will be per check, drop into a savings account and collect interest on the money instead.

<edit and a second thought> The rich should pay more in taxes than the rest of us. Because they rely upon the government to supply them the means to make their fortunes.

Their fortunes are supported by copy writes and patents and laws and courts to protect them, international treaties to expand their markets, policing of the air and seas to protect their products and employees in transit, roads and public transportation to get their employees to work, schools to train the employees. Thats not even getting to things like contracts and government give aways to big businesses. The rich wouldn't be rich with these benefits.

And don't forget what is commonly referred to as "corporate welfare". Most of the small business owners here would never see these perks but if you were a small business owner getting squeezed in the middle and found out the extent of "welfare" large corporations actually get you'd be floored.

One business in my nearest big city proposed to "create" 10,000 new jobs for the city if they could avoid paying ANY property taxes for ten years. On prime center of the city real state that was huge money. So, company gets the deal and moves in. First they say, "Well we over estimated how many people would be needed because we thought the business would grow faster than it did." Then it was , "Well, we said we would bring in jobs from our old site not necessarily create NEW jobs." The newspaper caught them out on this lie, they had said it in court.

But, there were about 2,000 new jobs created - most of them paid less than 50 thou a year. Those people got to pay city wage tax but the business never paid dime one of property taxes and still does not. They have two more years to go on that agreement so guess what?

They're leaving. Economic downturn laid every body off and "consolidated" with their other offices.

you have to have a SS number at birth now or the Health ins won't cover the baby
