Who else is waiting the impossible wait?

I have two barred rocks, an EE, light sussex and a barnevelder all at least 22 weeks old. The one BR that was the smallest is the first to do the squat then fluff after getting petted. My EE's comb is getting very plump and red but no squatting. Same with the Barnevelder. When they were so far away from laying it was much easier to wait but now that it's getting close.... Grrrrrr. At least I have one girl from last year who is laying daily and one tiny bantam RIR that lays when she's not broody. Not too often. I should just be happy that they are such enjoyable pets, shouldn't I???? I really want eggs. PLUS, I'm eager to see what color my EE lays. I used to say I'd just be happy if she laid an egg at all when I wasn't sure if she was a rooster. Now I want a green egg. Or blue. Or white. Or brown.....

Someone went it the nest box, finally! No egg, (I got a turd, instead).

When I first opened the nest box, they were frightened of it, so this is a step in the right direction. Some have red combs, I hear the egg song just about every day, but no squatting yet. 16 weeks, 1 day, 6 hours, and 12 minutes. HA! I really don't know what time they were born, but I feel like I'm counting each minute.

my pullets are 19 weeks old, I have several with egg song( BA, BR,delaware) , one that has been squatting for a week(the BR), three that used to be wild that will now let me touch them (SS, EE, welsummer) and one intermittantly sitting in the next box for 15-20 minutes at at time( SS).

They are all torturing me and I can't help but check every time I walk by the coop! Any day now, I know it.....

I've got 3 18 week olds and 1 19 week old and all I've got in my nesting boxes is golf balls. They do free range during the day so I'm starting to wonder if maybe they are laying up there. Today, one of the boxes was all dug up so I'm hoping that was a good sign. The weird thing is that a friend of mine got her chickens from the same breeder on the same day and she's getting 1-2 eggs a day for about a week now. Very frustrating. My daughter is going nuts with the wait, and I have to admit, I'm pretty anxious as well! Kind of embarrassing though - I don't know what the 'egg song' is but I suspect I'll know it when I hear it!

Go to YouTube and search for Egg Song. Then you'll get an idea what you're listening for...it's pretty loud! Though I'm still waiting to hear it from my girls to actually announce an egg.

Fortunately, not all chickens make such a loud announcement when they lay. My RSL is a stealth layer, as is my little bantam RIR. Not a peep, as it were. I had a tiny bantam leghorn who would let EVERyONE know the big event happened. Nearly every day. All that for a tiny little egg. Hope my new girls are quiet whenever they decide to start laying. Which better be soon.... I can't stand this waiting.
