Who else is waiting the impossible wait?

It's all "normal". Some don't lay until they are 6 months old. I've just got the one that started yesterday. Tay-Boe, since you are free ranging you might want to go on an egg hunt.

Now at 16 weeks and 4 days here, - still early, but the clock is ticking....

So, Buffy laid her second egg today about a half hour ago. I was home for the process and actually saw her lay it. But what a process it was! I took her at least an hour and I'm not sure how long she was at it before I got home. Willow, one of the Easter Eggers, keep her company most of the time in the nest box and sang the egg song for her (encouragement?). Then Sookie, the whitish EE jumped up on the roost and began singing (and she is LOUD). Anita, the BR, then jumped on top of the box and joined in. When she dropped the egg she looked like she didn't know what hit her. But, what a good girl, she laid it in the box today and not on the poop board! I gave them all yogurt and meal worms to celebrate while I ran away with the still warm egg

I got my first egg tonight!!! From my Cuckoo Marans Gerda. They are 18 1/2 weeks old. I noticed her earlier tonight lying down in the shade with her tail set really high where the other hens had their tail feathers low and relaxed. Around 7:20 she went into the coop in the nest box and about 15 minutes later I checked on her and she had just come out of the box and ran out of the coop. Not a peep was heard from her (NICE) and in the back of the nest box was a pretty little light colored brown egg. Very thin shell though as I've only had them on layer pellets for about a week now. Just bought some black oil sunflower seeds for them tonight also and they love them. Nice dark orange yolk. The only pics I have are from my cell phone so not sure I can transfer them. If I figure out I'll post pics.

Keep up the faith people, your eggs will come!

the ones we raised are about 30 weeks and still not laying. the 2 year olds we recently aquired have all stoped but one egg between them a day. our ducks are the same age as our chickens and I got our first duck egg today.

Yep, I'm waiting too. 5 of my girls are at 15 wks today and the other 21 are at 14 wks today. I'm very patient but I'm keeping a close eye out now. My roo was in a nest arranging the straw a couple days ago and today I noticed a second nest was the same. No idea if that means anything but...... I sneaked out a little while ago with a flashlight to try and catcj someone in that nest. Empty. The waiting goes on.

When I got my 5 pullets, I was told they were about 2-1/2 months old. Well, I later discovered they were younger than that, closer to maybe 6 weeks other than the EE which actually was about 10 weeks when I got her (I got them all the same weekend). At any rate, as of tomorrow they will have been here for 13 weeks, making the EE about 23 weeks and the rest of them about 19 weeks. I figured at least the leghorn would have started by now, but I got nuttin'. We thought maybe by our anniversary, which was last Saturday, but nope, still nothing. Next Saturday is my birthday, so maybe by then. That would be cool. I've seen some intermittent squatting by some of the girls and intermittent "egg song" from 2 or 3 of them, but nothing consistent. The only one with a really red face and comb is Felipa, the leghorn. I think my welsummer must be younger than the other girls because she seems much less mature than the entire rest of the flock. She has also faced some health concerns, though, but is strong and doing ok. I doubt she'll lay before next spring, but one never knows. I just know I'm getting anxious for the girls to start laying, and I hope it's pretty soon. i can't wait to post that "first egg" pic!

Woo Hoo!!!! First egg from our hen Rosie. Rose colored egg, small but well shaped and shell is perfect!!!! We are soooo excited!
