Who else is waiting the impossible wait?

We still don't have anything yet today, but Felipa's squatting again. Is that something she will continue doing from now on? If so, I like it. She's friendlier.

In fact, she's been all-around friendlier since her 2 egg poops yesterday.

I think she'll start putting shells on her eggs now. The the last few weeks, she hasn't shown really any interest in the bowl of oyster shell I leave out for them, but she is all about wanting some now! She was devouring it like she was starving yesterday--obviously, her body knows what it needs. It'll be nice when they start coming regularly, tho, and even nicer when her flockmates catch on and imitate her.

I got my first white egg!!! One of my RIR's started very early at 17.5 weeks and now at almost 19 weeks, one of my leghorns gave me an almost normal sized white egg next to the little brown one. YAY! All four of my leghorns have the 'flopover' going on, so more eggs should be coming soon I hope!!!

Well, the leghorn gave us 2 egg poops day before yesterday, and now we're back to nuttin'. She's squawkin' and squattin' like she wants to lay another one, but nothing so far. It's been 2 days. Was hoping she woulda popped one out with a shell on it yesterday.

I swear, this is the first leghorn in the history of chickenkind to wait until almost 22 weeks of age to lay.

We *may* have gotten our first egg song today! They were still in the coop, so hard to say for sure. And I didn't hear it, but hubby did. Said it was "loud, weird sound" and did not sound like the rooster. I'm still waiting to hear if someone does it again!

Hang in there, Lindsey! I am sorry to hear you're having to wait so long, but I think this has been a funny year for first-time layers because the summer was so unusual in every part of the country. Places where the heat is usually moderate, it was unbearable this year. Out here where it's usually unbearable, it was unseasonably cool and I kept a sweater handy all summer. I think it's delaying everybody. My leghorn is 21 weeks and just produced her first pair of egg poops this week & we're still waiting on a real egg. That's kinda old for a leghorn to start. She's sitting in the nesting box now, though.

So hang in there, the eggs will come! Besides, I have heard that the older your birds are when they start laying, the less prone they will be to having problems with getting eggbound, etc., or other laying problems in their lives. Maybe it'll mean they'll lay longer for you, too.

UPDATE!! While I was writing this e-mail, Felipa the leghorn LAID HER FIRST FULL EGG!!! Picture to follow.

YAAAYY!!
