Who else is waiting the impossible wait?

My 19 week old girls started hanging out in their coop a lot more today that normal. Two of them have very red faces. I even had a dream the other night that there were eggs when i went up to check. Still no eggs.

I bought two hens from a local chicken farmer about a week ago for a lonesome rooster.

One of those birds is a "production red" -- a beautiful hen, red-brown colored with white highlights. If I remember correctly, her mother was a Rhode Island Red and her father was a white rock. She came from a breeder somewhere on the eastern seaboard that breeds this variety to be excellent egg layers.

She was only born in March of this year, but she is already laying. In fact, through the excessive heat that we've had here in the mid-south all week, she has layed an egg every one of the ten days we have had her except for one day! She is the only hen I have that lays a chocolate colored egg (the rest lay lighter colored brown eggs, or else blue eggs). So I KNOW her egg when I find it in the next.

I have never had as good of a layer as that little hen.

I'm Waiting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We look, actually scour the area every day. Lots of red combs. Some squatting for the roo but not for us. I can't WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
