Who else is waiting the impossible wait?

One of our 18 week old laid an egg yesterday! which really surprised me because we had just brought them home from a show the night before. They were all so stressed from being at the fair, all their heads were shaking. I thought for sure it would set their egg laying back. A night of rest, electrolytes and some healthy treats and the head twitching is gone. At least one of them was so glad to be home, she laid us a gift! I can't say for sure if it was the first egg because the kids on barn duty could have collected one from ours and we would never know. My 10 year old son ate that first egg from his birds this morning for breakfast. He was so proud, happy and excited when he found the egg yesterday and while he ate it today. I thought it was a little on the small size (I didn't tell him that) but he kept telling me how big it was. Sigh, I am so glad I let him have his own birds.

edit to add: The egg was from one of the Plymouth rocks or the Cochin. Looking at their combs, I would guess Stormy the Cochin. Stormy won best of breed and best feather leg at the show. She is so quiet and demur, I would never have guessed she was such a show off.

my six girls are 7 and a half weeks old. If only they grew to the time they layed eggs at the same rate they grow in their first 2 weeks out of the egg!

I swear Im dying:th:th
I was wondering why the frisbee was getting bigger. Then it hit me.

Finally had my first 7 egg day, but one had no shell at all. I keep getting strange eggs, and they have all come in the middle of the night when the ladies are getting their beauty rest. I can't wait for them to get all the kinks worked out. I think I have 9 layers now, so only 4 more first eggs to go! Now, the one I am most anxious for is my Ameraucauna. I can't wait to see what color this one will be. Oh, and I have been meaning to tell you, one of my buff orpingtons lays such a light brown egg it looks pink! It is such a pretty color. I have tried to get a picture that is true to the color, and it doesn't show it.

The eggs are on their way, I promise! I definitely enjoyed the wait and anticipation, and hate to admit I rush home everyday to check the coop (before i even carry my purse in and set it down)! Every egg feels like a miracle. I am almost at the point that I am ready to start giving some away. I have been getting an average of 6/day for the past week and I am so excited about the prospect of having enough to share. I can't wait to take the first couple of dozen to Loaves and Fishes!!!!

HA! Congratulations Adora!!!

I guess those egg-producing thoughts worked!

I guess I'll have to project some of that onto my other 15 that haven't laid yet!

The leghorn has now given us 5 eggs, and the last one was a full 2 oz. I can't wait until the other colors start coming in.
