Hi - I have 4 hens all approx 5 mo old (I was told they all hatched March to mid-April), but no eggs yet - am I doing something wrong or just being impatient?

Its bad when the impossible wait passes and you don't even know it. I had been waiting for the last of my girls to lay. I just found a nest where they had been laying for a while now. Found 11 eggs in the yard.

I found out yesterday that one of my Buff O's is laying!

I knew I had 2, maybe 3 hens laying, but I thought it must be the RIR's. they are the ones with bigger red combs, and the Buff O's just aren't getting much bigger and only a little redder, so I didn't think there was any chance that a BO was laying. Well, I sat outside yesterday morning after letting everyone out. Suddenly a RIR heads back into the coop, after a few minutes another one makes a beeline for the coop. Then one of my Buff girls goes into the coop. I have been getting 2 light brown eggs and 1 dark brown egg nearly every day for about a week. So I go peek in the window and, sure enough, my BO girl is on a nest! I thought maybe she was the one laying the dark brown egg. Ended up not being her, when she came out of the coop her nest had a light brown egg in it. So I still have a mystery...which hen is laying that dark brown egg? I have to know!!!!

Omg i cant believe it that while i was reading this and thinking that my hens would never lay, my dad comes knocking to my door with this little egg on his hand and takes me to where he found it which was by the trash cans and not even close to the nesting boxes, any ways I am sooooo excited to finally get my first egg, my hens are 19 weeks and 5 days exactly, I have golden comets, RIR, NH and white rocks and some Barred rocks so Im not sure which hen laid it, but Im guessing it was my Buff Orpington, but Im not sure since most of them have big red combs and wattles nowIm so excited.

The wait is over for us! Our 25 week RIR gave us our first egg Sunday. Not to be outdone, one of our 19 week Leghorns started laying Tuesday! They've graduated from laying in a corner on the coop floor to using the nest boxes over night. The RIR takes off each morning to forage and then makes her way back to the coop to lay. So proud...
