Don't want to derail this thread, but may I just pop in a tag here? @DeerChicken14 , I read the referenced article and commented, but I don't know if you will see the comment. Is the BO over BA a sex link? Do buff chicks with dark head spots indicate a cockerel, while the dark colored chicks indicate pullet?

No, I don't believe the chicks are sex linked, but the gold/black is pretty much the color you'll get as an adult. The gold leakage varies and some are more gold than others

My Buff Orpington was our first layer! She's been laying every day without stop for the past week!! She's our little souffle-bottomed beauty, but SO DEMANDING. She shouts at us any time we don't give her treats! Her name is Oribel, which means golden beauty, and my personal favorite of our flock (don't tell the others). But I love every chicken very much.

This is my orp Poca! She will actually be entering a presidential debate with a chicken named Wendy soon. I have raised her from a little chick, she used to be very friendly when I had the time to handle her for two hours every day. She is the nicest of my chickens and (When I had her trained) sometimes would sit on my shoulder like a parrot. She has a very inquisitive nature and is "the rooster" of the flock. we don't have a rooster, she is a hen but she plays the role of rooster minus fertilizing eggs. She is a natural born leader and is very good at protecting the flock from our curious dog.
