Ive just had my first ever egg hatch!!!!!

1 Gold laced Orp Im so excited I cant do the cleaning!!

That first hatch is awesome, isn't it??

Okay--I just removed four ducklings to the brooder. I've got more zipping & starting to pop, but I wanted to get my first black one marked--that's the one that hatched out of the crushed egg, and now that I have another black I was worried I would get confused.

Also, I had planned to remove to the brooder around six this morning anyway, so it works out. Here they are:

All 11 of my chicks are doing fine running around outside with their mothers. I'm doing better with these chicks than ones kept in a brooder. I say 'I', really I mean the hens are doing better than me and their chicks are running about in the mud at 20c with a cold wind blowing through and they're trying to(and succeeding) eat whole wheat and cracked corn!

If any of them die I can blame the mothers.

It's so hard to take decent pictures of them, chicks are very skilled at turning around in a split second. It's getting late in the summer but they walk around pecking at things on their own a few hours at a time. They should grow fast enough in time for winter, although I do have a large coop(former shed) with a heat lamp if it gets cold too fast.

EDIT: Great picture! I'm sure you're very happy, they look so cute! Post more pictures as they grow, you can never have too many pictures.

I have a new project now. The brooder is basically an indoor dog box and chicky can get through the wires. Everytime s/he sees us coming she's outta there and running to us! So cute! Me thinks cardboard all the way around the bottom. Will help keep draughts out and chickies in. Still no friends have come out to play......

IM IN LOCKDOWN!!!!! FINALLY, its finally here....Oh gosh...Im so ready!!!!

Check this out ...Dh wants to leave for moms at 10am, after getting home from work...and wants to stay until tomm. night and come home at 10-11pm!!!!

Said chicks will be ok, thats not it, Ive waited and babied these eggs. They just dont understand that you just have to see this out! Its your hard work and progress and most off all your babies you get to see hatch!!!

so I got the, well if you dont want to go thats fine, just tell me. You know with that little edge.

Bad part is, what if I dont get my first zip/hatch until the following day, when we are suppose to be back.

3 out, bit of a disaster with one. Fell into the trough, ive spooned him out and hes dried off and very noisy. I will just have to wait and see if ive ruined the rest of the hatch and killed my other chicks.

Im a mess, this is so stressful, ive wanted those little guys for so long.
