I'm on day 17 (for the duck eggs) for my first bator- it has 19 growing duck eggs and 22 chicken eggs-my 7 April swap ones, some of Silkie's bantam silkies and showgirls, and 3 of my Ameraucaunas. Most of the chicken eggs looked good on day 7 (their day 7) but the green ones were too dark to see through too well, and some of theh little ones were too porous to see clearly, and 3 of the swap ones looked clear, but not sure so they're still in there. Hatching should be somwhere around May 5th.
The 2nd bator has 29 chicken/duck eggs in it too, and was supposed to have more from a trade I had worked out with another person here, but the eggs never arrived. So the ones that are in there will be it I guess..they're on day 3, I guess (if I put them in on Thursday at 6:30 pm-is it day 2 or 3 now?)They are in egg cartons and I'm turning them every 3-4 hours. My auto turner's motor wasn't working, so I'm waiting for another one to be delivered from GQF. If those other eggs arrive on Monday, what should I do? Isn't it too late to add them to the 2nd bator? It has my favorite Sultan eggs in it along with some guinea eggs and a few others. This batch in the bator has 2 Rouen duck eggs-it was an assortment from
Ebay-Cream Brabanters, Speckled Sussex, and lots of Silver Phoenix. I hope they hatch! I'll move the 2 duck eggs to the other bator once its empty...or something so they can keep going a week longer than the chicken eggs they're with.
Oh well, for a beginner, I'm hooked! Already planning the next batches to go in! But the anticipation of these little fuzzybutts is killing me! Its so exciting when its time to candle!
