we live in the country. our neighbors are on the other side of our little woods/tree line. we have 11 acresUh, I hope you don't have any neighbors then. I'd take a rooster crowing over someone having alarms going off at night
We were in same dilemma I originally wanted a large dog run hubby wanted something like what you show in picture we have 3 acres but I can't let them roam everyday since they seem to love going into the woods plus we have hawks I have the omlet coop and run which is completely predator proof but needed something they could safely roam in from hawks and the sun we ended up starting to make a portable pvc chicken tractor but while at home depot they had a sale of these carports 10 by 20 with a top and everything for 129.99 so we bought 2 as a test run we set 1 up and put bird netting all around it's been 2 weeks working great and they are safe from rain and hawks and the sun we plan on adding the second one this weekend so they will have 20 by 40 which is huge and all together was less then 350 for both carports and the bird nettingSo hubby has his mind set on using a greenhouse as the chicken run. Like one of those long tunnel greenhouses. I keep telling him no. I'd prefer the traditional outdoor dog kennel run. The run I have in question is only $400 and has a roof that is 10' wide 20' long and almost 7 tall. What he wants is 12 ft by 60 ft but it is at $550 and is on an auction site that still has 3 and 1/2 days left. He's so set on it because he thinks that it'll be good for them especially in the winter but I told him in the summer it'll be too hot and he was like I'll just roll up the sides. And keep the chickens in he would have to put fencing on the sides anyways. I think my idea is better and it's cheaper. We only have 22 chickens and six ducks.
***update***
we went with my idea. his was too big for the yard because the coop is not moveable. The coop itself is 12x20. they would have enough room. plus the run is more for when we are gone for long periods otherwise they roam around. Sucks we cant delete posts.
darn. if only i would've known of that. sadly we have(had?) coyotes and i don't think that would stop themWe were in same dilemma I originally wanted a large dog run hubby wanted something like what you show in picture we have 3 acres but I can't let them roam everyday since they seem to love going into the woods plus we have hawks I have the omlet coop and run which is completely predator proof but needed something they could safely roam in from hawks and the sun we ended up starting to make a portable pvc chicken tractor but while at home depot they had a sale of these carports 10 by 20 with a top and everything for 129.99 so we bought 2 as a test run we set 1 up and put bird netting all around it's been 2 weeks working great and they are safe from rain and hawks and the sun we plan on adding the second one this weekend so they will have 20 by 40 which is huge and all together was less then 350 for both carports and the bird netting

How often are the alarms going off?the alarms are loud but behind closed doors they are fine. i have a feeling that the coyote family left because we haven't seen them in a couple weeks.
the alarms havent gone off besides testing them and my dogs. we do not have trail cams yet.How often are the alarms going off?
Do you also have cams up so you know what sets it off?
Best of luck in keeping them away. I have coyotes hanging out in my yard from time to time but I throw my dogs out there and they'll just vanish. Haven't seen any checking out the chickens yet.@rosemarythyme

What @3KillerBs said. If you don't hardware cloth the run and make it predator & digger proof, you might as well let them free range when you are gone because that will improve their chances in the event of attack. Chicken wire just traps them in.Bigger is almost always better, but the greenhouse would need shadecloth for the summer.
Whichever way you go, you will need to put hardware cloth on it because the thing chicken wire on the dog kennel thing is not predator-proof.
