Who is with me?

Good morning!!!!

Hope Ducklet is doing better this morning - go Duckbutt!

All three chicks due are out, the last finally drying. I went to bed late last night with him half exposed but not ready yet - damped a wool sock stuck him in it and went to bed.

Came out this morning to a head peeping out the end of the sock, he was still stuck to the shell by a tiny bit of dried membrane but had otherwise finished hatching himself. Good bird. He's drying in LRC with his brother and sister. One is obviously a girls color legs, three more partridge rocks for me and one of them starting out good sized, hopefully an indication of improvement in my line.

Marans due end of the week - two of them... so next...

Okay, sorry I did not get the pictures downloaded. My helper

say no more. Hired a 16yo that thinks he can just show up any time he wants.

UPDATE:

Gauze is a big NO NO. I did wet it before wrapping, but it dried. The yoke did go in almost all the way and I think it would have if the gauze had stayed wet, but it dried to the yoke. So this morning I had to run him under warm water and slowly scrap it of f the gauze. As for baby, he is doing good, considering he looked like a black sponge Bob all night (huge diaper, which I for got to get a pic of). Now he is back in the incubator drying again. He has not walked yet either. So I am truly thinking this is from the temp spike, still not sure though, the ducks born on the 20th are doing good.

But this guy is early also and who knows what the heat did and it was younger than the other 2 during the spikes.

Oh well, cannot change what happened just try to better manage it. Now I am just hoping he can get up on his feet, he is trying.

With that long a hatch and drama thing you might want to get him some drops of light karo syrup every few hours for energy. His little body has been working soooo hard.

Electrolytes wouldn't hurt either, I use the generic unflavored pedialyte ripoff... cheaper. Or the powdered electrolytes from the feed store if I have them.

I kind of figured I had better get something in him, it has been a long time. I gave him Karo and water and now moved him to the brooder with a baby pheasant that was having difficulties in the chick coop. I will feed him more later.

I moved the 2 stinky ducks out to the coop so they would not trample the smaller one or the pheasant. He is breathing, which is a good thing and he kicks when I pick him up, just not moving much, but he has to be exhausted.

I have a couple more pens to work on so I will check him later. I also have a lady coming to get some chicks, so I have to get stuff done before she gets here.

Okay chickie_mama, here is what a baby Red Golden Pheasant looks like. I took a pic of the one I brought in since the others were to dark and when I tried to fix them they blurred. Also this is Gauze, I really do not think he is going to make it, but he is still alive so he might just pull through. He just does not look good. You will see him laying there in the pic with the pheasant. I actually think him having to stay inthe incubator so long did not help.

Red Golden Pheasant Chick and Duckling

And I just have to post this pic.
This is what I came home from the auction owning. All I needed was another horse.

He will probably never leave me alone at the auction again with a friend.

My baby duck has passed away.

I also sold 4 chicks today. Thank God I did not take them to the auction I got $2.50 a piece from the lady. She was expecting me to charge her more, but $2.50 was good, being they were going for $.50 at auction.

They shouldn't do that to us...poor ducky. You did what you could, sometimes they're just not meant to make it, no matter how hard we try.

I'm hoping the one turkey egg hatches but all the other eggs from these turkeys did NOT go well during incubation and I don't know what that's about. My previous pair of hens produced a tremendous number of healthy baby turkey butts.

And marans from the Postal Scrambled Batch I try not to even have hope for.

The replacement Marans batch looks good though I've only candled two eggs (one is obviously going and it's a GCM) and won't candle the rest at all, until day 21 comes and goes. They get turned and that's it.

I was so excited about it being a black and white. Everyone remember, even wet gauze is a NO NO. Wet gauze does dry.

Smack me for not thinking enough.

Well I have eggs do on the 26th but I smell something bad in the incubator, so I will candle tonight and then see what happens in the next 3 days.

I also have duck eggs due to hatch on the 28th and my 1 peafowl egg is due on the 29th.

I will get back with you shortly and let you know how every thing looked. I lost my duck, so hopefully my peafowl will hatch. That is, if it is still alive. I have not had any temp spikes, so all should be well.

I have to wait until it gets darker. The eggs are so far along I cannot see any movement, but there is still a stinky smell so someone is not in good health.

I have 15 chicken eggs due on the 26th, 3 duck eggs due on the 28th, 1 peafowl due on the 29th.

Okay, could not find a stinky egg, so I am assuming it is from one hatching and it needs to be cleaned out. That will just have to wait until after the hatchings. Actually I will get it done after the 29th and before the 3rd.

Out of the eggs I have 2 questionable, 2 starting to hatch and life in the other 11.

Out of the 3 duck eggs 2 had life and 1 is questionable.

And the peafowl egg is still kicking and is due in 5 to 6 days.

I have it marked for 29 days but it could hatch in 28.

So it seems that these eggs are going to be hatching right on time, due to not being caught in the temp spikes.

I am very sorry that your duck didn't make it. He looked adorable. What kind of duck was it?

That is great that you have so many more coming up that look good! I hope you have great hatches from this point forward. No more drama!

What is funny about the whole horse situation is that I would like to say that my husband would kill me if I had done that...but it would be my husband that would do something like that! lol He is a horrible impulse shopper!

Today is day 10 for my eggs, so we will be candling tonight. I promised the boys that we would, so... Should we be able to actually see movement, at this point, or are we still too early? I will have to look into that...

I hope everyone is having a wonderful day!

CB what works for something like the ducky owie is the little pads for burns or other non-stick type bandage squares/bandaids. I like the little pads for burns because they contain moisture. I usually keep those on hand for the dogs in the dog medical kit - that has also become the poultry medical kit. LOL.

Good luck with the next hatchlings

My little turkey butt is still with me, who knows maybe he'll luck out and be the sole survivor. The two marans are due Fri......

I think the turkey hens have accepted the chicks I gave them. I think I heard peeping still in their pen this morning...
