Who lays a speckled brown egg?

I hatched a BCM egg that looked almost exactly like that, just a little darker. In fact, of the 6 BCM eggs he sent me, 2 were speckled.

I get the dark spots and the light spots too, but it is not consistant, and I agree that it's not breed-related. Those dark spots will wash right off if you get the egg wet and rub it a little. Also, when wet, the spots looks like blood, which leads me to believe that some eggs get blood on them in the "birth canal."

My juvenile Australorps lay eggs just like that

I have to express my opionion...

Fact: When I looked at the picture I instantly thought of my Barred Plymoth Rock eggs. They are pinkish like that and have brown speckels!!!

my barred rock lays eggs like that at the begaining of her egg cycle and by the end its a pale soft brown then it starts all over again.

I have 6 white rocks, a couple of them lay speckled brown eggs and the others lay regular brown eggs.

I currently have 11 Cornish and they lay beige- cream colored eggs--- no spots--- so you can probably take that breed off you list. My RIR's lay terra cotta colored eggs with spots... hope that this helps!

Actually I have some Partridge and White Rocks and get speckled eggs from them--- same background color just fewer speckles--- you might be right!
