One of MY quail auctions?? I have bantams and just recently (a yr ago) started w/quail. Must be someone else hun, sorry.
Sorry, I was talking to Quail Lady there. My birds average out around 12-14 ounces, but my fawns are killing me. They weigh around 10 ounces and I can't get them up there fast enough. I just got them back in August but I would like to add more size to them. Everything else weighs about 13 ounces some bigger some smaller. I just hate little birds. I might have to get some more fawns. There are only 20 of them so it didn't do much.
I used to have a butt load of auctions on ebay, never heard of people who raised from my eggs, glad to know someone else sees them as great stock. I am working on beefy birds, takes years of selective breeding. It's tough with the colored ones, they are more for fanciers.
There is not even 16 oz coturnix, you may get one now and then, but if you average 14oz you have super duper bionic flock.
If you want larger quail go for Butlers or Georgia Giants but they take at least twice as long as coturnix to reach butchering size .
X2 AS WELL THERE ARE NO "ALL WHITE MEAT COTURNIX" IN FACT THEY DONT CONTAIN ANY WHITE MEAT WHATSOEVER... MANY MANY MYTHS ASSOCIATED WITH THE SPECES AND EVEN MORE UNEDUCATED OR UNREPUTABLE FOLKS THAT CONTINUE TO PERPETUATE THESE MYTHS

the thing that really impresses me is when you ask the folks on evilbay to merely put their birds on a scale and put something beside the bird for scale they cannot handle this simple request I was kina wondering how long it takes a bird to get to 18 ounces they cannot answer simple questions either too many big words for them I guess like scale and such if they cannot PROVE it there is no reason to believe them and while they are committing fraud evilbay is made party to that fraud.
They are very big birds, your username is website is stellar game birds an the ebay auction was too. I wonder why I just now paired that up? Oh well, it's me and my twisted and confused mind. Anyway those were great birds, I think I got like 2 dozen. I know that I still have a good dozen of those left. I started out with jumbos, browns, and tuxedos. So it looks like my whites and some of my Manchurian/Italians came from you. You have great stock, here is a picture of one that came from your eggs.
AHappyChick has some (1 Coturnix, 3 A&M all hens) that she said I could have, but I have to get permission first. I'd buy a male for them and hatch some babies for meat. Quail sounds very tasty, and smaller than chickens so good butchering practice.
Will any of you have some nice size Jumbo Coturnix eggs within the next few days or weeks or so? I still havent found any so wanted to ask again. Also are the Phayro(sp) largest or which breed is please?
