who rides dressage

In my opinion, dressage is just a more formal way of communicating with a horse, shouldn't matter whether you are man or woman, gay or straight...
I love dressage and I love western pleasure and some rodeo.

Wanted to add...I appreciate a sophisticated man and I sure to appreciate a fine cowboy!

Or how about, "Elbows IN! Thumbs UP!"

Here I thought I'd marry a cowboy but instead, I ended up with a car guy. At least he feeds on his way down to the garage...

We've forgotten the most important:
"HEELS DOWN!"

I must be doing ok with heels down, cause she never yells that.......though posting is a challenge. We finally decided my stirrups were too long. Once we shortened them, I could ALMOST post all the way around the circle. Then my horse would get bored and I would have to concentrate on getting her "round" again, I would forget to look where I was going and look down to see what she was doing, my thumbs wouldn't be right, my shoulders would round and I would fall forward onto her neck.......

Man, there is a lot of stuff to remember! And not only am I learning, but I have to teach my horse at the same time! At least for right now, I'm not bored, though I don't know if I could say the same for my horse. She hates to just go in circles......so we are working on a different routine so I can work on my skills and she can keep her brain engaged.

LOL my horse was trained as a barrel racer originally, then retrained as an english horse so when we started to train him for dressage, his circles were awesome... actually, that's all he wanted to do!

I LOVE dressage.
I started riding hunt seat when I was 5.
I rode hunt seat for years. Took some dressage lessons from a My folks bought me my own horse when I was 13. She went western.

So I learned western and competed several years with her and my English going mare.
When I moved to NC I met a FANTASTIC dressage instructor from Finland. She was mean, but my riding improved as did the other riders that were brave enough to take her instructions

I did dressage and jumping when I was younger. When it was time to get a new horse, I decided, Screw it... and got a rope horse! Started rodeoing and liked it much better. My mom did dressage for about 30 years and was very good but my dad's a cowboy... and I'm a daddy's girl. Riding with Daddy was much more fun!

i think the only thing she thinks is gay are the clothes.

Heck no!

The clothes are based on baroque era military officers' uniforms.

GENERAL PATTON RODE DRESSAGE!

Lots of men ride endurance in very skin-tight breeches, they just wear a long t-shirt over it

That is certainly not where I *thought* that sentence was going

Pantyhose! I don't know if it's done anymore, maybe not since so many more hi-tech breeches etc are on the market, but at least until like 15-20 yrs ago, men would not infrequently put pantyhose on under their breeches to prevent leg rubs. Also in ride-and-tie.

Not a sexual-preference or crossdressing thing, just practical!

No, not EXACTLY where I was going, just the comment about the clothing being effeminate that I was countering.

I have a junior rider who does endurance with me. At the last ride we went to, a male friend of mine stopped at our campsite to talk with us for a bit in typical male endurance attire. Her poor father was just staring at this man. After he left, her dad asked quietly, "Is he comfortable in that?

I've heard about pantyhose under breeches and/or jeans, but I personally don't know anyone who uses them.

You can get bootcut breeches now

Very cute... but of course I mean you don't have to look dressage to ride when you're just riding at home, you can wear the riding jeans... very manly. haha.
