Who's Hatching Ducks? Hatch With Us!! *Page 3*

OH thank goodness. I've been panicking. Humidity is fluctuating between 64-65% and nothing further. I'm going to bed before I work myself into a tizzy. Hopefully we'll both have pics to share in the morning!!!!

Well, I'm going to bed

My goose is still trying to get through - I might have to help tomorrow if no progress.

Night all! Happy easter!

Those baby ducklings swimming is just cheek pinching cute!!!

Yesterday we brought out our teenagers and let them swim in the kiddie pool.
It's so funny watching them dive under the water

They always act like they have never seen water before running and diveing.

They calmed down and just paddled around then got out and sunbathed.
We had so much fun just watching the ducks.

I have a question my son has 3 Mallards and all three are getting the brown mottled feathers are these females ??
He said he read on a site that sometimes males look like the females ??

Quote:
Yes, the males will look like the females until they get their adult feathers, with the males having green heads and such. One thing I noticed on mine(rouens) is that the males will get a white band across the front of their throats and the females don't. I would assume it is the same for mallards. Other than that, you have to go by the sounds they make. The females should be quacking soon, if not already.

Still nothing this morning - the baby still hasn't broken through the membrane and by now I think it should have. Should I help? Here's a pic I took around 1 am - hard to get a good pic and there's shadows, but it's the egg on the left, first row. Still looks the same now.

Listen to the egg and the baby will let you know if it is in distress. If it seems a struggle to chirp, I would help. I mark my eggs as soon as I notice a pip and if they are not out within 24 hours I help. Now in between, if baby goes from a loud chirp to an I am almost gone chirp, I help them. I have not had 1 die that I have helped and it breaks my heart when I wait to long to help another.
