Who's incubating?!?

Nice! That’s exciting, I’m sure you’ll get a good hatch rate! What did you make the incubator out of?

Styrofoam cooler is the base material with a double pane plexiglass window on top for viewing, a 25w lightbulb for heat (with a heat shield to keep the direct light off the eggs), 1/4" hardware cloth for elevating the egg area to increase circulation. Had temp and humidity figured out...added eggs last night, and this morning one thermometer indicate 106F!!! the other was 101F. The high reading was closest to heat source. Luckily, I had tilted the eggs away from the heat source (closer to the other thermometer), so I know they were not exposed to actual 106F temps, but I did add a few extra eggs next to that thermometer so they might be adversely affected - time will tell. Additionally, I am thankful that I wired this bulb to a dimmer switch, and so have slightly dimmed the light in order to reduce the temp a few degrees.

I just hatched a lavender orpington and two splash today. Moving button quail eggs to hatcher tomorrow and GA giant bobwhites next week.

Oh...how could I forget my Cemani eggs??? She just started back laying so I have some of them in the incubator. My first two off of my farm should hatch in two weeks.

We would like to but having a really hard time finding eggs. I thought that hatching over winter would be good to have eggs sooner in 2018! But... my plan has gone poorly.
My thoughts too but I only have my orpingtons laying one or two eggs a day. My Cemani has started back laying so that is good...but would like to get a head start too.

I hate those unpredictable temp spikes! I hope they're okay though, although I think they should be fine especially if its still-air and how early they are into incubation :) good luck! keep us updated though, I would really like to know how many end up developing!

That was exactly what I was thinking. I originally wanted to be a show-quality breeder of golden neck d'uccles but finding that kind of eggs around this time is almost impossible so I just settled with getting some mixed-breed eggs locally!
