Whose incubators are full?

Mine are almost full.

I started with a hovabator and that was not nearly big enough to suit me so i bought a Sportsman. I have it full right now (354 bantam eggs and a full hatching tray hatching now). Well it has been staying full all spring and I have a couple hundred chicks in brooders now which reminds me I need to build another brooder... Last weekend I went to a farm auction and bought a Sears and Roebuck 228 egg redwood cabinet and a Montgomery Wards 40 egg redwood. Now my 228 is half full as well and I am picking up more eggs this weekend.

I kinda like this hatching thing...

I plan on setting 2 dozen next week but have a feeling I will end up setting as many as I can fit.

I'm somewhat worried if this becomes an addiction if it hasn't already

Wow, I have the hatching fever! I am wondering though, what do you do with all the chicks?

Do you sell them locally? Ship them? Go to auctions?

I have 22 in the incubator now that are barnyard mixes, mostly RIR. I don't know what do do with them when they hatch. I have been asking people if they want chicks so I know I can give some away.

I am just wondering can you make money raising chickens? I am just a hobby chicken person but I did notice that it only took me $10 worth of feed to raise my 16 babies up to nearly 6 weeks old. I was thinking that maybe you could make money by hatching the chicks and selling them at 6 weeks?

Is there a profit in breeding chicks on a small scale or does it really just pay for your feed?

If you do it to make money sorry but if you do it because its something you enjoy go for it and any money you make is a plus. My chickens pay for theirself. What I sell in 4 months pays for their food for the year thats all I could ask for I have over 100 breeders 200 chicks at any time and right now better than 500 eggs in the incubators. Yes I go to swaps, sells, auctions and I have a bunch of people that buy from me.
