I just want to know the reason why many different people are on the forums, besides our common love of poultry.

Personally I like the BYC forums not only because I own chickens but people are nicer here. There are far less trolls and just plain rude people on these forums. That is in great part thanks to the wonderful, hardworking admins/mods. I wonder if its also due to chicken-people just being better people?

I found BYC when orphaned chicks were left on my doorstep, I hung around because of the great people. I like to interact with others even if it is not in person, there are so many people I never would have had a chance to meet and get to know otherwise.

i like to learn and share what i've learned with good folks and you cant find better more friendly folks anywhere on the net. this is a great place for chicken people. thanks BYC you are the best people.

For one- I have learned so much here! More than any book could teach.

I like that there inexperienced and experienced folks which make it interesting.

I joined because everytime I do a search for alternative livestock feed and anything chicken, BYC is on the front search page! There's so many nice people here and so many are just as animal crazy as I am.

Hehe.

I have been on here threw all its changes getting close to 10 years. I got lots of help on here an try to help others. I also get a lot of promotion to my website an farm from here.

BYC has always been clean of the "issues" compared to other forums so it has a lot to do with being mostly farm minded people. But in the last few years it has gotten big enough to attract lots of the bad anyway an the mods have done a great job of keeping most people from ever seeing it.

I'm actually here for a similar reason. I knew someone who was raising roosters for cock-fighting and he was going to get rid of his non-agressive rooster. So, I was like hey I'll take 'em, being the softy that I am. I threw him in my garage with some scratch and built a coop within a week. I looked to this website and "chickens for dummies" for all my info and was very pleased with the results.

That was about 2-3 months ago, now I have 4 OEG, 6 Leghorns, and 3 Cornish X's.
Whoever coined the phrase "chickens are addicting" was dead on. lol

I found BYC a long time ago searching for something chicken related I'm sure. Lurked, just reading for a while before I joined.
I've stayed because of the people. It's a wonderful place to talk with folks who also love poultry. There are some respected experts here, some old timers with years of experiance, newbies with some totally out-of-the-box thinking, a few who provide comic fun, some with radical ideas, some who are quiet, some who are loud, a few just totally nuts, a few who keep us all grounded, the mods are always on top of things, basicly it's like a big extended family to me.
It doesn't matter if I have a question on raising chicks, building a better coop, raising purebred show stock, how to deal with a messy run or if I just need a shoulder to lean on with personal problems or a pick-me-up after a bad day at work - there are always those here who can and do help.
There are quite a few people on BYC whom I have never talked too, posted on a thread they started or anything else whom I greatly respect and admire. There are some of the nicest folks to be found here. There are a few who have became true friends and I talk to almost daily. There are a couple I'd like to kick in the shins. A very few I just have to grit my teeth and ignore.

A few I don't agree with, but enjoy the friendly arguments. Like I said, just like a family.
BYC is just something that over the past couple of years has became a part of my life.

I'm very happy to be here and be a part of the wonderful community that is the BYC forum.

I loved it in here. The two old BYC (EZ and Yuku) were my "parents" and there were alot of good people in there that I remember very fondly. My friend from Scotland introduced me to Backyardchickens and I was a lurker for awhile until I was comfortable and signed in. I remember our old mods, like Garm and seeing the changing of the guards to Nifty.

Yep, been around for a long time!
