Why can a broody......

Are they all sitting on fertile eggs? Because if not, you can just break their broodiness now.
Yes, fertile eggs. I have a rooster, a lovely sweet caring gentleman, who takes his duties very seriously, all of them. I do want some more chickens (have some people who want a couple of hens for free) and the last batch was a dreadful dud (Pullet eggs) But I did not want for ALL my hens to do the broody. *Sigh* Two major boons, though: the garden gets a rest and almost no food gets eaten. The roo perches inside mostly, came out this morning and tried to entice ME with a tidbit, lol.
