Why did my hen eat her egg?

I have a broody silkie, Yeti, and she ate one of her only fertile eggs today. She has access to food and water, mealworms and oyster shells. So why did she eat it? I wasn’t sure this egg would make it because it was rather long instead of round, could she tell it wouldn’t make it? I’ve heard the hen can communicate with the chick through the egg

Sometimes, when getting on and off the nest - an egg breaks or is badly cracked. Mine will eat those.

I don’t know why I didn’t think of that- thank you. I got worried she was starting to reject her eggs and was going to eat the rest!
