Why do Geese & Ducks always find the one string in the yard...........

My ducks have a knack of finding baling twine (from the hay bales - and yes I do clean up BUT they somehow find them) and eating it - one of my ducks had approximately 10" of baling twine in it's mouth - it took me an age to remove it slowly - there was only about 1" of it hanging from it's mouth when I discovered what it had done!

My chickens eat hay.... they get fed well but have a habit of eating hay and I often find a chick with about 4" of hay sticking out of their mouth! I always remove it - slowly!

Seems they are all addicted to doing what is not good for them.... love them all!

OMG! Mine too! I chased down a goose a while back who had a string trailing out of his mouth and when I pulled the string it wasn't budging so I cut it and hoped it passed (must have). One of my Muscovy got himself tangled in a plastic grocery bag (where the heck did he find that??) and the handle was firmly wrapped around his chest. I had to wait until he went to bed to get the daggone thing off of him!

If they can get into it, they will! LOL

I have a guy who comes around who still doesn't understand why he can't just let the whipper snipper pieces fall where they may around my backyard.

I have this one particular duckling. NO idea because he doesn't seem to GO for the stuff.... but I swear... I once unwrapped him from the whipper snipper piece, put the piece down, put him down, patted him and said "There you go!" and he quacked off... right back into the piece. And managed to tie it back on!! And then, of course, had to run away from me... all while trailing a blue wire that the rest of the chickens are trying to peck like a worm....

I am a freak about the ducks getting their bills on screws or nails... I am constantly borrowing a friends "driveway magnent" after projects and always end up rolling it over the WHOLE yard! The last thing i wanna do is twist a screw out of one of their mouths

My geese and my ducks eat polystyrene. We have several large boxes that are used as brooders or incubators, and I have to make sure to store them out of reach, otherwise they demolish them bit by bit. I have absolutely no idea why.

The person I bought my geese from said his chickens used to shred and eat plastic carrier bags.

Yep... If I have an issue opening a feed sack I just leave it and my Sebastopols have it open in no time and then I just collect the string the next day... They also love any frayed hems on my pants or shorts... LOVE LOVE LOVE....

I call mine The Gremlins. Remamber that movie? That's exctly what they're like. We were just discussing last night that we should video their next performance (safety and time permitting) and send it in to "Destroyed in 60 Seconds". And that would be a slow day!

I just remembered this.

One of our ducks, Lucy, is particularly friendly, and also very smart. You can't get anything in the garden past her. Last Spring, I was tidying up in the garden, and came across a length of faded red twine, about 18 inches long. I picked it up, and started back towards the house, when I was suddenly greeted by Lucy, waddling towards me as fast as her little legs would carry her, eyes fixed on the twine.

About five feet away from me, she suddenly stopped, having realised that it was in fact a piece of string, and not the Largest Earthworm Ever Discovered. She looked so disappointed.
