Why do so many of you (us) want roosters?

I agree with you! If I lived in the country I wouldn't mind having one at all, but living in town, I just can't do it. Most of my neighbors don't even know I have chickens and I'd like to keep it that way

I like to have several different roosters for breeding use, plus backups in case anything should happen to my breeding roos. Cockerels that are obviously not good enough quality for breeding we kill and eat at about 5 months.

I admit I am a bit of a softie, we have a few roos running around here that we do not need -- we just like to see them strutting around the yard.

Actually I'm from Bellingham myself! I didn't know that there would be anyone from Bellingham here!

I do I want a rooster but what can I say? The neighbor's probably don't want one!

I don't know what to do!!!!

I think hens without a rooster look kind of lonely.

:aww

He's the captain, the leader of the pack, the first one out and the last one in each night. The food finder, the hawk spotter, the peace bringer and the proud cock o' the walk....live without a good, honest rooster? Never!

I have one loud parrot and one noisy GSD and a neighbor with five barking dogs and a rooster, and I live near a busy/noisy road. So I'm really not keen on any more noise. Are there laid back roosters that don't crow alot?

I have a rooster, and he causes me a lot of stress, actually -- I'm afraid one of these days some Jehovah's Witnesses will come to the door and he'll be all over them! The mailmen know to honk their horns to scare the chickens away, and I can warn guests, but you never know... he's just doing his protective rooster thing, but I wish he'd realize that people AREN'T going to hurt his hens!

I'm the only one in the family he doesn't chase. And I'm the only one who's willing to get rid of him! My sons LOVE him, even though I've seen the rooster chase them all the way around the house.

I think a big BEWARE OF ATTACK ROOSTER sign might be in order... might keep the burglars away, too...
