Why I love my geese!

Don't think we need to give a reason, who wouldn't love these little curious balls of fluff?

Especially when they all running towards you even though they could hardly balance themselves:

They're just so darn cute, even after a hard working day of digging mud holes in the backyard:

, so I hardly need adoption, but thanks anyway

Someday, when I am retired and don't have to work, I want to adopt a human imprinted-only house goose, diaper and all. I will be too old to get a gosling who might outlive me . . . but that is a silly little dream of mine.

That was also a dream of mine, and this summer I'm out of work so I got to try it. The original plan included goose for Christmas, but now I don't know...

I've had geese three times before, two at a time, and they all ended up on the dinner table. This year it's going to be a lot harder to make that decision - but for now I'm just enjoying my goose!

Gosh, your goose is quite a character. I think I would have a hard time eating him, but maybe it's more a matter of economics.

Maybe if he got to be a pain in the butt, but it doesn't sound like he is.

The plan was Ee'qua and Louis being Christmas geese, especially if they were a pain. Now, as I found out I have to wait until next year for eggs, I've decided to keep them especially if they're the coop's watchdogs. I'm afraid I really like geese.

Ee'qua now honks at me when I'm taking care of the chickens.

Whats not to love about geese?

If Im late to letting them out of their night house, I get yelled at from all sides.

If I dont have a fresh pool BEFORE I let them out Im yelled at again.

3 of the goslings I raised from day olds, if Im not outside enough during the day to give them treats Im yelled at and they knock on the front door and crap all over my porch. LOL Life is good

Here is Miss Matuse around 12 wks old flapping her wings so hard she was tossing feathers everywhere.

As an indoor-Gooser, I'd say, these pictures can only capture a hard 33% of why I love them so much. I love Geese only a hair below the amount I love my children. They are a blessing, and they make me believe in something rather devine in the world.
I could never live life without a Goose, now. Sadly, I have to wait until Summer next year before getting another one.

Geese-Human relationships in well imprinted birds, go beyond any relationship I have ever had with an animal before. In two days, I loved one small Gosling, more than I had loved my dear cat of 14 years. That's the honest truth. Coming from a former cat-gal, I'd say it means something.

The best thing about them, I find, is their very unique personalities. Perhaps it's why it is so easy to love them. Somehow they become that long lost friend, or, that companion to chat and snuggle with while watching a movie late at night.

They're simply, God's greatest work. IMO.

My brown Chinese geese, 2 males and 2 females, are hilarious; they make me laugh daily. They love to nibble all over me; for them, nothing is off limits, my shoes, pants, socks, belt , ring finger; they love that gold ring
on my finger. When I sit outside they will surround my chair and begin to nibble. One of the males wants to take my finger off; I call him Sir Nibbles. They've just about pulled off the care tag on the back of the lawn chair and have completely unraveled the thread of my belt and have removed my shoes from my feet several times, and then chew on it and through it around for several minutes before loosing interest.

They run in circles flapping their wings vigorously; they are quite amusing to watch. The other day they came over to my lawn chair to spend time with me and one of the males started to excitedly rub his neck all over my leg while honking; it was weird, but cute and I have no idea what that was all about. I've taken them swimming several times in the pond behind the house and found out if I talk to them too much they get very excited and aggressive and try to push me under scratching and biting me; they seem to think they have the advantage over me while in the pond. I've learned not to provoke this response by not being too talkative during our swims. One last thing, geese will follow you every where and if they see you afar off they will come running to you just to pal around ; they are very devoted, life long companions and you are their very best friend.

Nice story and sounds like they have accepted you as part of their flock. They are very pretty too. Welcome to BYC and the goose thread.
