Why is my chicken’s eye swollen shut

I probably would not bother separating her since they were all probably exposed at the same time, and she has been with them lately. If she were more severely ill, I would. Tylan injectable given orally, has a 1 day egg withdrawal after it is completed. If giving by injection, the withdrawal time would be 7 days. Tylan can cause muscle damage at the injection site (it doesn’t always happen, but possible)so I would give it orally. Here is some reading about MG:

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with me! You have been very helpful!! Her eye is trying to open now which is good. BUT she did blow an air bubble out of her nose just now right before I reapplied her eye ointment. I think I'll run back to TC and get that Tylan before they close.

Thank you for the article. I'm not sure it is MG because her eyes look clear so far. That bubble so far is the only sign of anything respiratory so far. But I'll still go get the Tylan just to be safe.

Sometimes it is hard to know if you are seeing a vitus, or mycoplasma (MG.) Let us know how she gets along.

Will do, thanks! This evening she was doing much better and enjoyed foraging a bit. Her eye was opened a little too which was nice to see . I held off on the Tylan for now. We will see what tomorrow brings.

Look for anything that she could have gotten into the eye, or for any peck marks near the eye. Glad she is somewhat better.

Well, this morning did not bring me much joy. My hen is still doing better BUT my Roo now has bubbles in the corner of one eye and another hen’s eye was shut. I’ll be treating them all with eye ointment and I guess now I need to use the Tylan. Unfortunately I just realized I got the injectable, not the oral. I’ll have to go back and get a needle but do you know the dosage for it? It doesn’t give instructions for poultry.

Nevermind, I remembered you told me I could use the injectable orally.

Give the Tylan 50 injectable by mouth 1/4 (0.25) ml per pound 3 times daily for 5 days. I use 3 ml syringes with either 18 or 20 gauge short needles to get the medicine out of the vial, and remove the needle to give it one drop at a time. Sorry that the others are showing signs, bit I hope the Tylan helps.

Thank you. Sorry I forgot you had already told me that. This is the first time they’ve gotten sick, hopefully after 5 days of treatment they will recover. Thanks again for ALL your help!
