Why is my duck eating it’s eggs?

Are they getting extra calcium in oyster shell? Are you taking eggs up early. Don’t give them a chance. I had an EE that was an egg eater and I would have to be constantly on the look out for eggs, but it mainly seemed if someone laid very early those where her targets. Also what are you feeding? What’s the protein contuent? Eggs have protein egg shells have calcium.

I haven’t been able to get to the store yet to get the oyster shells. I was getting the eggs around 10:00am but now I’m getting them about 8:30. I’m feeding them “country lane” 16% layer pellets and when it’s cold I add some scratch grains to their food. I have been giving them the egg shells too.

I had a duck that was hatched at my place by her mother, go onto raise her own clutch. She pecked open and ate the contents of an egg in her nest that she was incubating. I assumed it was a non-viable one, and she wanted to clean up the area, maybe an instinct thing, so as not to attract predators/pests to her nest. she continued sitting and successfully hatched the rest of the eggs.
