Another that prefers Orps. and barred rock for variety. I do not see anything remotely boring about either. Gorgeous birds.

Yup, couldn't have said it better myself. My favs are the BRs, closely followed by the Orp crowd. I think they're both beautiful with all the qualities people want chickens for in the first place.

I can see why some think they are boring, they come in 5 colors in the US buff, white, black, blue, and splash. They are solid colored with no pattern. The legs dont stand out like bright yellow legs. If they came in barred or laced or any form of a pattern. It would be cool to see some different solid colors like red orps that they have in Germany. It would be cool to see buff columbian or deleware pattern.

I think my RIR/Buff Orp Meg is pretty close to what a Red Orpington would look like. She has lacing on her feathers and positively glows and glimmers in the sunlight. Definite Orp size and shape with white legs. Very hefty girl, my largest hen besides the Blue Orps. Bet I could make money if I would reproduce her accurately.

I have to admit those blue ones are pretty. Can someone post a picture of a splash orp??

I like everything I've heard about them, and again, didnt want to ruffle no feathers, lol, but was just wanting to know more about a breed that to me, seemed... inconspicuous.

If I didn't already have 120 chickens !!! (how did THAT happen??) I would order some blue/black/splash eggs..... maybe next year.

I love ours mostly because of their wonderful temperaments, but also their massive size and they are just so beautiful to watch roaming around the farm. Nothing beats all that fluff!
