Yotetrapper- I asked the same question when I first joined BYC. Then I saw Suede, speckledhen's (the evil blue orp lady's) huge blue orp rooster and I was hooked. I now own a son of Suede who is a black orpington cockerel, who at 18 weeks is the size of my ameraucana hen. I also now own 2 white orp pullets, a black orp pullet, a splash orp cockerel and two buff orp pullets. It's a disease. Run now!

They always blame me. Innocent me. Sheesh. I'm a carrier or something, LOL.

This is Sunshine, named because she is like a ray of sunshine when I go to the coop and she greets me and always wants to be petted, brings a smile to my face. I find my orps to be the friendliest chicks and docile.

Edited to add just one more pic...

It's that darn avatar of yours. Searching, hunting, waiting to strike some poor, unsuspecting soul that wouldn't have thought of orpingtons twice to begin with.

oh speckled hen, it just may be your fault LOL. I've been reading about orps and was trying to decide --buffed or blue---blue is starting to win out. Do you have a couple pullets that needs homes? (or know of any)

Sorry, most of us have been trying to get more girls, so extras are in short supply in the Blue Orp category. Since, except for a couple that sell out quickly every year, hatcheries do not sell these and we have to hatch them, it's hard-they do not ship well, the fertile eggs I mean. I am starting a hatch in a couple of weeks, but any extras then will be boys, unless there is a pullet or two that don't quite meet the standard I'm willing to part with. That's not likely, though. If things change, I'll let you know.
