Why would somebody SHOOT my chicken??? *Update - Found a Bullet!!!!!*

yes I like the sign idea. And the camera for real (or not) Maybe call your local news station too? The newspaper? or even post flyers. Get lots of ppl keeping their eyes open...or maybe the parents of the kids will catch on.

Update: The deputies just came back to my house. They didn't see an exit wound yesterday, so they wanted to try to retrieve the bullet. Unfortunately, they did find that it went through. So no bullet. Bummer, that could have really helped. What are the odds that I could actually find the bullet(s) in my yard??? Anyone have a metal detector???

I thanked them for taking this seriously and being so thorough. They said the same things that y'all have been saying here on this thread...that shooting onto private property near my house and other houses behind mine was very serious and they're doing everything they can to find them. I told them how every vehicle that drives by makes me nervous now, and that my kids aren't allowed outside without me. They've been so nice and helpful...Thank You Austin County Sheriff Department!!!

I have lived in Texas almost my whole life and I've never known anyone to go around shooting things for fun, but I grew up mostly in the suburbs of Dallas and Houston. OMG!!! Someone shot a chicken?! That is just to cruel and heartless. Stupid punk kids. I'm a teenanger myself and I just don't see why people think killing animals is fun?????????? What's fun about that?! And killed in it's own yard too!?

Wow TxMom I am impressed with the law enforcement in your area coming back to look further into the (CRIME)!!

I would look into the fencing, boards anywhere around where she was. I remember digging BB's out of our wood fence growing up maybe it got stuck.

Chances are someone was shooting a stolen gun. Generally I like to believe that gun owners have more respect for the weapon than to be discharging it and randomly killing peoples pets.

Maybe i've watched to much CSI, but according to my sophisticated education at the school of televised crime dramas, children/teenagers who ENJOY killing small animals and watching them die, are likely on the road to doing the same to humans. Then again, it's just as likely that they were being irresponsible with a gun and shot the chicken on accident.

Either way, i really hope they do catch whoever did it and scare the life out of them.

I'm so sorry this happened to you; i would be beside myself furious - and possibly sitting outside my chicken coop with a shotgun, waiting. But that's me.

If it comes up, and i hope it doesn't, you most certainly do have the legal right in this state to defend your home, life, and property with whatever force is necessary. I'm not encouraging you to go hunting the morons or anything; i'm just sayin'.

I'm so glad the sheriff is taking it all seriously.

And i'm so so so so sorry this happened.

And i think you handled the situation very well by calling the police immediately, etc. Way to keep your head.

When I rescued my 12 y/o duck Monty He was the onyl Original duck from the nursing home pond. One of the workers told me how she came out one morning to see two teenage boys shooting all the ducks on the pond in the head with a pellet gun. This was at a NURSING HOME! I mean how sick can you be!
