WICKED! (The Musical) (Other musicals welcome!)

A bit of trivia, but Stephanie J. was the first Elphaba (she was even cast before our dear Chenny was cast as Glinda!). We went to Japan a few months back and unfortunately Wicked had closed there. I wanted to see it in Japanese pretty badly. In Japanese theater they change lead actresses and actors every act. It would have been worth it just for that!!!

I knew that about Stephanie.

I don't remember where I read it...maybe in the Grimmerie or some fan site. Either way, I really enjoyed "Making Good." I understand why they went with "The Wizard and I" though. Using "Making Good" would emphasize Elphaba's bitterness towards her father. While she has every right to feel that way, I think that "The Wizard and I" makes her more innocent, which makes the events that transpire all the more powerful.

I didn't know they changed every act in Japan! How cool! It'd be interesting to see how they try to maintain the same spirit, don't you think? I would love to see it there too...especially since I've taken a few classes in it. LOL it'd be fun to see how much I remember.

I'd be hopeless in German but I still think it's a fascinating language.

Have read the book and have been dying to see the musical for years. It in LA in december and my BF is getting me tickets to see it. So far phantom of the opera has been my fav but i just love the soundtrack to wicked.

Maguire had sold the rights to Universal Studios and they were writing the screenplay in conjunction with Demi Moore's production company. Apparently they had put in a few years of work, but one of the head guys did not like the screenplays that had been written. Stephen Schwartz, who ended up, writing all the music for Wicked, pitched the idea and the guy from Universal went with it; he had actually performed in a college production of one of Schwartz' musicals (Godspell). So, with Universal's blessing, all it took was convincing Maguire... all of this info can be found in the book "Defying Gravity", a wonderful read and must have for any Wicked nerd!

You're in good company.... I think you can see you have fellow addicts around you. To tell you the truth before I made this thread I did a search for "Wicked" to see if anyone else had, and it came up with EVERY SINGLE POST you had ever made because of your quote, LOL.

Supplemental questions:

1. Do you have the book "Defying Gravity" by Stephen Schwarz / Carol de Giere ? It's a must have for hardcore Wicked addicts.
2. Do you have or have you seen "Showbusiness: The Road to Broadway"? It features Wicked and you get to see critics bashing it pretty hard when it first comes out. A must see for a Wicked fan!

I dunno, but I have a theory: There are fans of Wicked and those who haven't seen Wicked.

I just talked with my BF and he said that Wicked is coming to TN this fall. I'm psyched! We're going!
