WickedNerd--

woah..that must have been something to see. The Pantages is a great theater.

It would have been amazing to see Idena Menzel and Kristen Chenoweth -- but I also like every person who gets a meaty role like those -- and the variations that they incorporate. I saw something where Patty Duke Aston was playing Madame Morrible in the Seattle Production, and was the Broadway one where Joel Gray was the Wizard.

whew this thread is bringing it all back.

wouldn't it be great (eventhough movies can't hold a candle to plays) if Idena Menzel and Kristen Chenoweth got the movie roles. I know it wouldn't happen...because they are broadway names not hollywood names.... but that would be great for everyone.

We saw Patty Duke once in SF's production and the crowd went NUTS when she walked on stage!!! I have never heard that kind of applause for Madame Morrible!!! With a movie, it would all depend on the casting director. When "RENT" came out as a movie, they let most of the actor reprise their roles. Mimi Marquez was once exception, because someone felt that the actress was now too old to fill the role. When "HAIRSPRAY" came out, they made a big deal about picking people that hadn't played the roles before.... so let's hope for a good casting director?

see now you got my hopes all up about the movie---and you know it will be a let down. Movies are so flat compared to the live theater.....However, that said -- they are more readily available, cheaper, can become a DVD, and be watched oftener...paused...etc. You get my drift.

The understudy on opening night. That is a plot from an old Hollywood B&W movie from the '40s; or something.

seeing it in Japan -- now that would be a life experience of unforgetable proportions. I also love Japan. Picture this -- combine Kabuki and Wicked.

I saw it on Broadway a few years ago with the origional cast, including Idena Mendez......An absolute fantastic spin before and after "OZ."............It explains so much about the origional movie in a creative way.....loved it!.....................................................chrisf

another Wicked fan.

How adorable to picture two little girls singing Broadway...love that image.

Agree that movies cannot match live performances. but sometimes, pale substitutes though they are, they can be entertaining. The movie wouldn't be the experience...but it could be an echo.

Music of the Night is one of my favorite songs from any musical. What's your favorite Phantom song?

Oooh... definitely love Music of the Night - also love "Think of Me", "All I Ask of You", um... all of them... !

I absolutely love Wicked: I am a really... un-musical person, I guess you could call it, but I couldn't pass this one up

My favourite songs would have to be... perhaps for good, and the wizard and I.
There's another one but I can't think of it

I think a movie would be more of pretty pictures to go along with an all-new soundtrack... You're right, there's no replacement for live theater!!!

I agree - the movies definitely have a place, but there will probably be people who wouldn't go to see Wicked live because they "didn't like the movie" (Although, truthfully, they probably wouldn't have gone anyway...) I didn't realize that Maguire had to be convinced to turn Wicked into a Broadway show before a movie - I'm very proud of whoever convinced him!
