My sister-in-law and her husband are in Lake Tahoe, right now. Her pictures all show a distinct haze over the lake ... from the fires. Wow!

Omgosh bahaha yes Elvis left the building!.... I found my last kitty right as we were leaving tooWait a minute! That means that Elvis really did leave the building, right? Or at least the coop!I'm glad he made it out safely - and hope you found your missing kitties, too. Cats have a stubborn way of hanging in and turning up, even when you don't think it's possible - and I LOVE them for it!
Yes the smoke is horrible here too. Even if the wind changes, we get it from different directions cuz there are fires all around us. My husband drove me through Keswick dam area last thur and it is so sad and looks apocalyptic. Wiskeytown lake will be closed for a very long time due to so many trees that need to be removed and guard rails that need to be replaced. They opened hwy 299 west but only certain times of day and night and only with a pilot car. There's about 20 miles that you'll have to drive 35mph because of it. It will take years for wiskeytown to look like it used to.My sister-in-law and her husband are in Lake Tahoe, right now. Her pictures all show a distinct haze over the lake ... from the fires. Wow!
I'll write my experience for you all in an article. I can add a few suggestions for Sunshine flocks evacuation suggestions too.Oh yeah?![]()
My guess is that you all will need to be alert for mudslides for the next couple of years, too, especially around low spots like the lakes. I can't even begin to imagine ...My husband drove me through Keswick dam area last thur and it is so sad and looks apocalyptic. .
Yes... 299West is notorious for mudslides even on good years so I'm sure you're right about that for several years to come.My guess is that you all will need to be alert for mudslides for the next couple of years, too, especially around low spots like the lakes. I can't even begin to imagine ...
The next coop I build is going to be insulated with lots of extra space, and a way to keep them safe from wildfire smoke.
One of the hens laid an egg today that looked awful. This is the first time this has happened with my flock. I think the stress from the smoke and ash is the cause.
We think the fire is moving away from us now, thank goodness. But our water district lost power with the filtration system, so we're being advised to boil water.
This has given us a lot to think about: from planning the new coop to evacuations. None of the evacuation centers allow animals. But there are options, including people who are more than happy to help.
