Will this work for housing pigs Update Pic Added

yes pigs will bite..they will try to charge you..try to shove you and swipe their teeth at you...DONT let them!....they have a very strong pecking order thing....if YOU arent top hog..(heehe)..everytime you go in the pen..etc..they WILL challenge you!..when mine tries to get fresh with me..i shove him back(by his shoulder..or however i can...) HARD AND SUPER FAST...because thats how they fight in the wild(they shove eaach other and swipe the teeth/tusks at the oppionant)....i have even tapped mine on his nose when he grabbed a treat to fast and nipped me...they learn FAST..they are the 4th smartes creature on the planet!...so, VERY smart!....they (honestly) have the mentality of a toddler(fact)...they are WAY smarter than dogs..so be prepared.....they figure out things by THEMSELVES...they are one of the few animals that have the ability to reason...so..again..dont ever let them scare you....they will first try to "swipe" at you with their teeth...jump right on them fast...trust me..they will not try it to often again..once you show them you mean business!..on the other hand..try not to hit them at all..that just makes them VERY mean...just a good quick hard shove or tap on the snout and the word "NO!" works..mine hasent challenged me since he was a piglet..until yesterday..he was trying to root up my rocks in my tile..i told him no...and i went to move him away...he tried to swipe at me....i shoved him back quick and HARD..AND kept going at him till he backed down...it took like 10 seconds(thats how fast you have to be)..then he crawled up in my lap to be petted(because he wanted comfort)...so..they just have to KNOW that you are not afraid of them and are the boss..and they will NOT give you any trouble..honest...as for the escaping thing...i dont know, sorry...mine stay in my yard when they outside(cheaply fenced)...and come when called better than my dogs..

..its ALL about food with pigs(hence the name...

..)..i trained mine with food...called their name....and when they came..they got a goodie!....now..they come every time i call them...

...smart little suckers, i'll tell ya!....but..if you have a feed hog and he will be outside in a pen..they WILL get bored and try to escape...and they WILL escape if they set their mind to it..so..i'd use electric fencing..they will learn fast to stay away from it......best of luck!, Wendy

You know something..........I am NOT feeling good anymore about these pigs.

Matter of fact I can't fall asleep because of it. I think I made a mistake and don't know what to do now.

DH says they are fine but I don't " FEEL" so.

They are way too small and I just am feeling afraid of them.

I sure hope I'm wrong and it all works out. I almost feel like I got taken because of the low weight and they were so bloody from just being castrated.....I know they are freaked out and so am I.

I actually feel anxious about the whole thing.

Hope the feeling passes but usually my gut feelings are right.

just take it day by day..

....they wont attack you, etc..if you just let them know you are boss now..AND then honestly they wont challenge you at all!....also..runts grow up also...it just may take longer to butcher time?..(sorry i dont know much about the butcher process...but i love pork!....

..).......they even say that feed hogs are more gentle than pot belly pigs....honest!...so, dont worry!...and just dont back down from them...i promise it will be okay...give it a shot!...i'd get a vet out there though...in case they are sick or something...best wishes!, Wendy

So it sounds like they are castrated - you are not going to be dealing with a testosterone fueled boar. That would be a big plus. And I presume you are not breeding, which also makes things a bit easier. Are you just growing them out for a few months?

Late night worries.

What if I got sick pigs.

What if I get bit.

What if they get out.

What if I can't get them back in pen.

What if

What if

What if.

I hate the what if mood I'm in right now. Just want to sleep but can't. DH is NOT into this, just obliging me. Now, what if I regret this day.

right!..and she also metioned something about "teeth cutting" earlier..which is a plus!....it means they clipped the tusks already..so they will not grow..or will only be small(plus fixing a male will inhibit the tusks from growing!)....and..yup..a fixed male is great!..she'll be okay!

Just wanted to try and raise a pig for meat. Then I read here that two is better than one.

But why only 35-40 lb. at 4 mos.

I didn't do my homework. I usually do........but I didn't this time.

I'm mad at myself right now.......hell hath no fury like me mad at myself.

Hey, you raised 4 kids. You must be tougher than you think.

The good thing is if you REALLY get sick of the pigs, you can sell them or if you get REALLY mad you can shoot them and eat them.
