Will wild ducks breed with domestic?

I’ve noticed some wild ducks landing in our creek with our domestic flock. They seem to get along and get closer than I thought they would have. My son wants them to breed our hens so we can have a wood duck mix. I told him probably unlikely but it sparked some curiosity. Has anyone had any experience with seeing a wild and domestic mate ??

Not unusual for mallards to mate with any of the mallard derived breeds, but given the option other wild ducks will 'stick with their own'. In a freerange/choice situation it would be very unusual for a non mallard wild duck to mate with a domestic.

I don’t think we will be lucky enough but it would be rather cool to have a duckling from one of the wild ducks we have spotted. They are very beautiful
