Normally I am against wing clipping because I think it's often not necessary, and can hamper a chicken escaping an enemy. The other day I let my 3 - 9-week-olds out to play, and my bantam got excited and flew.....up...up...UP....to the top of our storage shed!!!! I think she scared herself because she crouched right at the edge of the roof, looking down at me, like, what did I do???? She flew back down to me, and I immediately came in and looked up wing clipping videos!
I went ahead and clipped my full-size girls, too.....don't want them getting any ideas of checking over the fences, especially since there is a dog on 1 side and the back neighbors. YIKES!
My girls are carefully supervised when they are out of their coop/covered run, and they go back in when we need to come inside the house. So I am not as concerned with them needing to escape an enemy. If we lived out in the country, I would never clip!
