Have you kept animals before? Or is this a dream you're realizing? :love
It's been a lifelong dream but I never had the room (or financing for that matter).

I've moved around a lot and now my partner and I are finally settled on our land. I'm so fortunate that I can start my little ranch while I'm still young.. ish. Haha

Broody is doing well. She's taking shorter breaks but still gets up to stretch her legs and eat/drink/poop. Today is Day 18. I'm going to take Day 21 & 22 (Tues & Wed) off from work so I can watch the magic happen.

"Special" still has some swelling but I think shes getting better so hopefully she'll get to move back into main coop soon.

I've been free ranging less due to the massive number of predators interested in my girls. I've witnessed both hawks and black vultures dive at them. On the camera, I've seen the Bobcat, a house cat, and huge possum sniff around at night.

I bet they start hatching tomorrow evening😉

Oh man don't say that!... is it possible they hatch early?! When should I start checking?
I'm pretty sure all my summer time broody hatches have been early, maybe they won't🤷‍♀️ I will tell you not to mess with her during lockdown, there is a lot going on and you don't want to disturb the process.

I don't know why but it honestly never occurred to me that it could be early.

I have been keeping food and water in the run but have a chick feeder (with crumbles) and waterer ready. I figured I'd put them inside the coop on hatch day but maybe I should put them in now so broody can get used to it being there.

Honestly it will just draw the other hens into the coop, unless you have her sectioned off and they can't get to it. I don't know what you feed, but when I have chicks (Broody or otherwise) I switch everyone to all flock. I find it amazing that with 2 feeders my broodys find a million other things to feed the chicks, grass, bugs, flowers, but they always flourish 🤷‍♀️ Just proves they know what they're doing, lol

I also feed mine all flock but they're pellets. So I bought a small back of crumble in case the pellets were too big for the babies.

They will all want the crumble, idk why, but they will, lol. You could buy a bigger bag and mix them, unless you are absolutely going to separate her and the chicks. Either way, mom will make sure they eat
