Winter and Summer Watering system w/ waterer nipples and heater.

i have the same problem. some people told me to blow the hose out, whatever that means. last winter i would unhook the hose every time, i got a quick disconnect and roll the hose up holding up in the air while doing it so the water would run out. pretty hard on the shoulders though. we are supposed to think this out before we place the coop but.....

You could try the expandable hose from the tv ads. Expands to different lengths and shrinks back when water is turned off. I think with a quick disconnect you could snap it on, add water to your system, and then disconnect and store it in your house since it doesn't take up alot of space.

DO NOT LEAVE THESE HOSES IN THE SUN!!

They will not stand up to sunlight, because it does what sunlight always does, it "eats them up".

We found out the hard way.

You need a frost-free hydrant. They're not real expensive.

I don't know where you are, but this would solve your problem forever. You just have to run a pipe below your frost line where you are. Ours in MD is 30". And if you have a plumber FRIEND, you may be able to get him to help for a nice free meal (chicken and dumplins or fresh-baked chicken... LOL).

YouTube also has How To instructions.
