Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

So sorry about your canine buddy

.

Had to chuckle about your cats comment BBP!

I must be losing my mind I accepted a shift for next Tuesday that starts at 6:30 a.m. and ends at 7:00 p.m. Thankfully DH will be back and can hold down the fort!

If we move the date of the Bash any further back I'm not sure I'll be up for it since I'm freezing now! but I'll go with whatever is best for everyone who wants to attend (long as it isn't January or Feburary)!

Well long day tomorrow that starts early... so off to beddy by for me...

Deb

Ok, so H&R & Kristip can't make the bash if it is on the 1st.

And TO & Cind can't make it on the 8th.

15th or the 22nd, anyone? It shouldn't be that cold down here by then, FT & Deb.

Thank you for posting your pie crust recipe, TO. Jim, I'd love to have Annie's also, and definitely Cind's award winner as well if it isn't too much trouble to post, please? Gee, I don't ask much, do I?

Kris, I shred & freeze my zukes for bread/baked goods over winter too. I've also done the same with pumpkin & carrots.

Elaine, I love that idea about zuke chips. Seasoned salt might give them a little extra flavor?

Hey Jim, how much for your chickens?

Cind, glad to hear about the hatch. I hope you get a few more, and that she is as good a mommy as Jasmine.

TO, score on the heat bulbs! Wish I could find them on a bargain like that. What do you mean that your roo's eyes are wrong?

I loved your salsa making pics.

FT, sorry to hear about your aunt. I hope you all have a great time. I hear those dancing horses are amazing.

Sorry to hear about Cadbury, Dooner. That is always hard to lose a beloved pet & companion.

And BBP,

Well, must scoot to bed. Another long day tomorrow. Sweet dreams, all!

Terri I will meet you at H&R's at noon.

I could be wrong but I thought that TO said she COULD make it.. I will pin her down tomorrow on a text message.

FT- so you are coming to Madison on Oct 14th or there abouts. I live south of Madison towards Oregon. Elaine lives in Monona, KristiP lives not too far from me in New Glarus.
SO perhaps we can all get together.
Do you think you would bring down an ameracauna pullet/hen from Jim for me??I can meet you before your appt and take the hen but then meet you afterwards so you can come see the flock and the horses. PM me and I can give you my number.

Dooner I am sooo sorry you lost your wonderful puppy dog. I have lost a few over the years, one being our beloved hound/sharpei mix at age 5 from the tainted dog food.
IF you lived anywhere near Madison OR Milwaukee I would take your bantam hen.. I have a few that don't lay anymore but they are cute.

Can I ask you more about how you dehydrate the zucchini? What kind of dehydrator do you have? I have just the round Ronco type. What kiind of bags do you put the dehydrated veggies in?
I don't have alot of freezer space either so drying would be great.

Anyone dehydrate tomatoes? potatoes? Apples? Please share. Inquiring minds want to know.

It is still up in the air about the Dancing horses. My sister has been really sick so hasn't felt like talking. She sounds terrible. I will try to pin her down with a time. Go ahead and you guys do what all works out for you. If it happens to be on the 15th and I'm not tied up
gig.gif
I can try to make it. Does the park you're thinking about have an indoor building ?

I feel so bad for you !! I know exactly how you feel. I've lost alot of dogs in the past few years. They were my babies ! The picture of Cadbury is adorable.

I am sitting here on my bed with a showgirl, a silkie and a dutch bantam. The dutch is actually under my laptop between my legs staying warm and the silkie is sitting on my lap. She is very inquisitive !!
So I have to ask, was there someone on here that makes chicken diapers and aprons ???? I am shoving a napkin under their butts everytime they move around !!!

Silkie is actually ready to go back with her sibblings but I'm getting very attached to her cute personallity. She is suppose to be a lavender split but who knows. She is a silver something or othMaer !! My showgirl is doing ok. I called three different vets today to see if they would give me a script for some prednisone for her NOPE !!! Some animal lovers they are.

WCC sounds like a plan. Can I bring the Dom Roo too so he doesn't have to sit in the car all day?
I'll get back to ya about the time my appoinment is.

Well, we haven't heard from Jimbo tonight or have we ???? I'm going to go to the Boys VS Girls thread and see if he's on there !!!

Ok sending it off before I lose it.

hi, not much news here.. I don't remember what I wrote last and am not going to go looking for the post..

Annie went to town late morning.. so while I was waiting for her to come home, I started a batch of tomatoes. I finished them at just about the same time as she came home.. 11 quarts.. now have 25 quarts done.. 15 more to go to make it 40 total.

lots of tomatoes in the garden yet.. they are free for the picking.. Sally is coming for some.. I don't know if anybody else is..

the raccoons are having a great time with what corn is left in the garden..

this batch of quails is about done hatching.. not a real good %.
only 6 out of about 36.. we are not saving any more eggs this year..

...jiminwisc.........

Sorry, too much pain to go over posts.

I did see something about Dornes doggy. so sorry about that... Duke is hanging in there.... though it's not that good...
sad.png

Lacey wouldn't let me look for more chicks.... tomorrow I clean and take the bad eggs out so I'll see then.
wink.png

Do the bash when the most can make it, if it's the 8th I'll just have to wait 'till the next one
idunno.gif
The 8th I can't make but the 1st and 15th is fine.

Must kill pain and sleep! I'll post the crust later..... night!

Good Morning All! Dornes good to hear from you but sorry to hear the news! Setting a time and place for a bash is always a PITA! Think all of you at the southern bash won't have any trouble recognizing dk she'll be the one with the blue lips and talking with a stttutter.
lol.png
Going this AM to cut up that deer guess the meat wasn't set up yet. Finally called him at 10:15 to find out what was going on.
roll.png
Told him I could have gotten going on something else had I known. But I did get the bedroom closet prepped for paint. Jim the recipe I have for pickled fish comes out nice and firm but I haven't made it for years cause I can't seem to save enough northern to make it, always seems to find it's way to the grill.

It calls for a two week soak before eating but think it's a lot better after 3 weeks. Would address a lot more posts but really hate this laptop. Should have my stupid box back Sun or Mon. Have a good one!

I have both the Excalibur (w/temp control) and the small round one. I used the round one for the zuchinni as the other one is in the basement and it's just easier for things you don't need to set a drying temp. for. I bought the expensive one first as I used to make a lot of beef jerky and needed the temp. control (tried turkey jerky too and that was interesting!) For zuc chips just slice the zuc (can be done in food processor), spread it out one layer thick (to dry faster and not stick to one another), add spice/salt (lightly), turn on & boom - in a couple hours it's done. (If you do an online search you'll find better instructions.) I store mine in canning jars. (I try not to use plastic bags - too easy to lose track of in my cupboards.) Someone suggested seasoned salt? - yes, I tried some hot spicy salt, too -- I'm sure it'll taste a whole lot better when I add dip to them!

I have dried tomatoes in the past but then didn't use them. I prefer them fresh or frozen. I used to make banana chips & apple slices for our son. (Still make the apple slices and he eats them like candy.) I've also made applesauce rollups (homemade applesauce spread out on a piece of suranwrap on the tray & after drying, rollup and store in covered container -- these are great on roadtrips) and yogurt rollups but I don't make those anymore. (Tried salsa rollups too and those were killer!) I've made raisins with seedless grapes -- delicious! Someone told me that they love their dried pears, so I'll give that a try this year usually I just make pear butter and freeze it.

Elaine
