Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Amy Casey is in my thoughts and prayers. You too Brent and Suzie.

TO I used to love watching my Skovies perch on the shed roof. But the roof is made of tin. You know skovies are climbers, in their natural habitat they live high up in trees.

You all are so wonderful, thank you for the prayers and well-wishes for Casey. I believe in the power of prayer, and to hear people doing it for someone they'll probably never meet, it's humbling and heart-warming.

Now you're making me

Casey's wife has been posting updates on CaringBridge. Tonight she says he had a good day. He had swelling throughout his body from multiple surgeries yesterday, and it had spread to his brain but that is getting better now. His vitals are stable for the first time since Tues.
celebrate.gif
So far he has had surgery to fix a broken femur, to close an abdominal wound, and still needs another to fix broken vertebrae. He must have been crushed by the tree, the medical staff says it's a miracle he's alive and wasn't carved up by his own saw. Casey is a special person, a real one-in-a-million; the recovery will be very long and tedious, but we are grateful he is still with us.

Cind, you need quarts? I have some extras I can part with. I absolutely love your chick pics! They are so darn adorable. I can never tire of seeing little peepers!

Bigz, I'm wishing you all the best for a speedier recovery. But I can just imagine something as vital as sight can never be restored quickly enough.

Suzie, any & all recipes you care to share will always be greatly appreciated! And you are more than welcome to join us any time & post to your heart's content. We love hearing from you.

BCC, glad to see you checking in. Good luck in Portage.
BBP, are those L.I. Cheese pumpkins smooth-skinned? I've heard of the Luminas, but not those. I'm always on the lookout for a good pie pumpkin. If you have a hair salon nearby, making deer repellents out of human hair in a mesh bag (onion) will keep the deer from your crops. I've read deer don't like human scent, and hair keeps it's scent for a long time. I have used them on my fruit & nut tree seedlings for years with great results. HTH.
I have zillions of crows, and plenty of hawks too. What's wrong with my crows, other than being annoying as all heck?

No kidding !!! That ought to be fun trying to catch them !!!

I've got plenty now but if I didn't I'd be calling !!! Wish my hens would have been able to survive out on the nest.

Yeah, I can just picture you running around with a net trying to catch a bunch of guinea chicks, FT!
lau.gif

Cind, you crack me up. I PMed Deb & she described herself as resembling the Michelin Man this coming winter. I bet she's searching for those battery powered union suits as we speak, poor gal. She is sure in for a wakeup call as to the real meaning of cold. Well, at least they didn't move to ND.
Hope you are feeling better soon, Carol.

TO, sorry to hear your Muskovies are damaging your shed roof.

Nice collection of eggs. My birds have been eating like crazy lately too. Must be packing in on for winter.

Ditto on both thoughts.

Well it didn't rain down here today. Kinda nice actually, albeit cloudy. Got all the peppers picked, & will work on SIS's salsa tomorrow. Still have more pears to pick & can too. I'm kinda glad my apples didn't do well this year because those pears are going to keep me busy. Last year it was all apples. Sure would be nice if they would always alternate years. Yeah, right!

Well, sinus pain is kicking up again. Sweet dreams, all, and stay safe!

Amy! We are all here for you & Casey too!

I am very glad to hear he has a little improvement. It will continue; it just takes time.
I'm not familiar with CaringBridge yet. What hospital is he in, if you don't mind me asking?

He is in Marshfield, at St Josephs. CaringBridge is a website where families can create a free account to post updates and receive support for those who are going thru a medical hardship.

Hi!

DrH.... hope you found that deer.... be a shame if it got away... if it did, I hope another hunter finds it! I hate waste! Had a neighbor shoot one that he couldn't find, 4 days later he shot another one but when he went to dress it out he realized it was the same one he shot before! So good luck to you and your friend!

Jim... I feel the same about the coons in my garden. I don't like it, but if they leave the chickens alone they can have a few tomatoes or whatever. We saved and used mayo jars too. Had a big flood in the basement one of those "odd years" when people who never got flooded before got flooded. I pitched allot of them then because it was a dirt floor and they got pretty bad. Now I wish I cleaned them up and kept them! I often wonder too what archeologist will think of our world 500 - 1000 years from now! Hope your plan for the tomatoes works out! I think I'll look for a couple of late "volunteers" and pot the for house tomatoes for the winter. I had one vine of those lumpy ones too! I wish the coons would eat them and leave the rest alone! You got to find a way to post pictures here... 6ft. radish plant?!
ep.gif
Sure you aren't pulling our roots?
lau.gif

Amy... I so hope your friend heals well and soon! My youngest works sometimes for an arborest (tree trimmer or whatever) I've seen him work and it worries me every time he works there.
hmm.png

Carol... I haven't froze green tomatoes, it's just mine are getting ripe a few at a time and I'm fighting coons for them, so I freeze or dry them as they get ripe. Then when I have all I can get I'll make my sauce. I did find out by freezing them whole when I'm ready to do sauce I just drop them in hot water for a few seconds and the peel slides off better than fresh. Any bad spots usually pop right out too. The water thaws faster than the pulp so I can get most of the water out before I put them in the pot. It works so well I now freeze all the tomatoes I'm going to make sauce out of!

TO...
ep.gif
wish I could get a basket of eggs like that everyday!!!! I NEED to get that many everyday!

BigZ... I know you started this thread but a big hearted man like you I'm sure would let 'lil Suzie type too.
love.gif
Hope you don't have too much discomfort. It should be all worth it when you can see again! How's your birds doing without you?

CC.... I would love jars!!!!
clap.gif
ya.gif
But are you really, really sure you want to give them up? I can come get them almost anytime. Would you like something for them? I would feel bad not trading something.

Deb.... My youngest son has worked at a ski hill for several years. He's to the point where most of the time he just works in long johns, jeans and a flannel shirt!

DH said he's trading some of our green grapes for some Concords
hu.gif
We'll see. The last picking was about 20 lbs. worth. I think I got them all now, whats left the birds can have!

All the birdies are doing fine. The chicks are doing great too. DH is a softie... He thinks I should bring mom and the kids in and set them up in the jacuzzi room so they don't get too cold.
roll.png
I told him if it gets real cold I'll give them a heat lamp. I think he wants to watch them!

OK, going to stick another load of grapes in the dehydrator, make the chicken mash and go to bed!
