We're sending our prayers and wishes for a speedy recovery for Casey. His great attitude will definitely be a huge advantage in his recooperation. But just remember the challenges he is facing and realize he has a long road ahead of him. Spinal injuries can be difficult.

Hi All, I will keep Casey in my thoughts .. I worry about DrH whenever he heads out to the woods, too.. but it is a job that has to be done..

I am soaking wet .. so is Annie.. we were in the garden picking all of the green tomatoes.. then a sudden rain came along. did I mention that it is a long way back to the house ??

there are about 6 bushels of tomatoes.. If we cannot use them, the chickens will be eating good.. I brought a full tractor bucket of roma s on the vines.. I want to hang them in the garage to see if they will turn red that way.. meanwhile there are 4 of those large blue tubs from F&F still down in the garden full of greenies.. and 4 more plants to pick clean , yet..

I have about 40 quail eggs to set and then that is it for this year..

I was going to pull a trailer of cedar planks close to the shop for planing.. It will wait for dryer weather..

I am going to build some raised planter boxes for next year.. My #1 daughter planted her whole garden in boxes this year.. she had tremendous success with onions and lettuce.. I am planning on planting onions, carrots and lettuce..

I pulled out some radish plants today.. they were like small trees. about 6 feet tall !! I should take pictures..

I am going up to make some chili.. I was going to do fish tonight, but after being wet and cold, chili sounds better..

Hi all--just got back in from chores...my Muskovies have decided that they really like to sit on the shed for the night! And I thought that they didnt perch...maybe the pigeons trained them to do this? All I know is that they are making my already loose shingles come off of the shed!

More $$$ to spend on the buildings! Check it out:

Darn ducks....
Egg production is getting back up there...and the Ameracaunas arent even laying yet...(except one from H&R) 39 eggs today...very bad for the amout of birds I am feeding! I put 50# of food in there last night and today it was GONE! That is only in one coop...I have 2 more plus the ones that are always outside--I am not sure where they eat!

I just hate when it is wet...the eggs get way too dirty!

I cant wait for Portage tomorrow! I think I will bring the SOP along and some post it notes so I can put comments in my book...breeders, comments about birds etc. Might be good for something, sometime.

Jim---I cant believe you have that many tomatoes! Are you guys expecting a frost soon that you have picked all the greenies? I pulled whole plants one year and hung them up-side-down in the basement and they ripened until February! It was great that I could pick them until then...wasnt so long that we had to eat those yucky store toms then! I think as long as the temp is above 50 or so they will continue to ripen and be good for you to pick, any colder and they might not do anything! DOnt know about the garage--unless you have attached. (not so lucky here)

My thoughts and prayers are with your friend Amyable! Dh said that a bunch of guys were cutting trees at his work and his brother was there telling them that they werent taking the right precautions...thank God no one got hurt...but the threat is always there when you are doing that...I think about DrH all the time when he is saying he is dropping trees too...they dont call them "widow makers" for nothing! Be careful out there everyone!!!!

OK--I think I am going to go out and see if my horse wants to go for a ride...tried to get DD25 to go along and she says it is too cold! Oh brother....sent DH for feed so I am off the hook for that! See you tomorrow Carol and Cheryl!

Later(s) LOL--Terri O

I am back.. the chili was nice and spicey.. just what we needed to cut through the chill.. I used one of the jars of tomatoes that I canned yesterday.. I had 3 jars that were iffie.. I was a half cup short of tomatoes to fill the last jar so I topped it off with water.. and 2 other jars I just washed, but did not give a hot bath to sterilize.. we will use them up right away, soon..

we went back down and picked up the tomatoes.. 4 blue tubs of them.. Yes, we are supposed to get some more frost tonight.. whenever they mention frost in low lying places, that's us..

whoever said that muscovys don't perch ? I think they are very closely related to cormorants. (sp) wild muscovys perch in trees.

I might take your advice and hang the tomatoes in the basement. the garage is not attached.. the ones with the vines attached are all romas.. we picked all the others off the vines..

we had one variety that was a lumby, bumpy SOB... hard to carve up for canning.. I hope I never plant that kind again..
looked like 5 small tomatoes stuck together around one common stem....

So SIS--when you "watch" one of Brent's favorite shows do you have to give him a play by play? That struck me as funny for some reason...hey, there is no reason for you not to sign up as your own self! We would welcome you for sure. So, you have been using "my" recipe for pie crust all this time? You just make the pie and them wrap and freeze to bake later hey? I might just try that...I talked with the seamstress in town today and she says she can make me another rolling cloth for my board...I think I could not get all the flour out of it after all these years. Maybe I will have the man make me another board too...then it will be all new!~ Really have to try a GF pie crust and see if it is as bad as everyone has been saying.

I just came in from the barn--deburred 2 horses, DD19 said she was planning on cutting the pony's mane so I did it for her...she can do his tail! What a mess.

Well, I have my popcorn made so I am going upstairs to hit the hay...thinking about going out tomorrow for an early morning ride...I am missing riding my horse lately! Sweet dreams everyone! Terri O
