Evening/morning all!

Well not entirely true. I tried to fall asleep and that didn't go well.. so here I am.

Lots and lots of guineas--FREE. Four Ma Guineas have returned from the wild with babies in tow. Most are now big enough that they don't need brooding, but they would need a shelter. Or pay $10 for the hen and take her and the babies. Royal purple, pearl, and there might be some lavender and coral blue. I just don't have room to house all these for the winter. And another hen is still sitting! Very active, healthy birds.

sounds like there should be more... like: bring your own net and a shotgun, these are free ranging birds.. ?? LOL

No kidding !!! That ought to be fun trying to catch them !!!

I've got plenty now but if I didn't I'd be calling !!! Wish my hens would have been able to survive out on the nest.

DrH....I picture dkv... with so many layers on she looks like the Michelin Man! What's she going to do when it's cold? lol

Elain... I would love to have a good dehydrator w/temp. control! I'm very jealous! I have 2 different Nesco's and a Ronco sometimes (like now) I have all 3 going! Somethings would do much better if I could controll the temp. and air flow!

I make all kinds of stuff too, I like to use dried tomatoes especially in things that are wet enough.

Jim... No cats? How 'bout that one running around outside? Or is it too big for your catsup pot?

Yea, no salt in the crust, the bit of sugar dose the job but I guess you could put a dash in if you want.

FT... They're so cute when they're that little!

WCc.... those guineas sound like some chickens I was suppose to get last winter. This woman put an add on CL and when I called she said she'd have to catch them first
duc.gif
o.k. days went by and my son and his friend offered to help catch them.... we went out twice and only saw 1 of the 5...they were all off in the woods! Never did get any of them!

Why bother with the add if you don't have them?

SIS....Glad your making your own comments! Do we have you hooked yet?

Well, I got some grape juice canned. I need more jars! Still working on apples and I'm throwing tomatoes in the freezer as they come, still lots of green ones! I'm drying some too. The chickens are going to have lots of treats this winter... making them raisins and freezing the apple and sweet potato scraps. DH brought home a huge watermelon from work that wasn't ripe so they'll get that too.

The little fuzzballs are so cute!

Mom had them off the nest at snack time! Guess you never get over loving chicks! (But then, I haven't had as many as some of you perpetual hatchers!

)

Well, still a few things to do before I can hit the hay!
Night All!

Almost forgot... new high on the eggs! 14 today!

Might get that egg order filled after all!

Good Morning Everybody! Don't have time to read the posts gotta get something to eat and get the garbage to the curb before the BFF gets here to go look for the biggest buck he's ever shot. We lost the blood trail last night about 7 and meandered till 9 before deciding to wait for daylight. It was a good hit so it can't be far from the last blood spots. Think the yotes ate well last night told him he can always boil the horns for soup. Hope we can find it!

good morning,, DrH, good luck on the tracking.. I was never any good at it, since I am color blind.. My brother on the other hand was great at it. He even had guys come and hire him to track at night.. That is one of the drawbacks of bow hunting.. the deer always seem to show up just at dark..

Sis, our garden is far away from the house with a grove of trees in between it and the house.. there is no way of stopping those coons.. as long as they are after the corn, they are leaving everything else alone..

cind, yup, no cats.. in the house at least.. that wild one will never find it's way into the house.. as long as she leaves my birds alone, I will not hunt her..I did notice a decline of chipmonks and rodents.. I have not seen any evidence of rats since I trapped that one.. I am hoping the cat will move to a neighbors' barn for the winter..

years ago we saved mayonnaise jars by the tons.. they make great canning jars.. but lately the jars are plastic.. we have a couple of hundred jars, so we are all set..

when I was about 10 years old, my parents bought a large freezer.. My mom was so happy about that.. she didn't have to can anymore.. so she put all of her jars into boxes, called her brother and we took a trip to the dump.. us kids had a ball throwing those jars down the hole and smashing what we could.. I can remember years after that how mom would say that she wished she would saved some of them.. We often talked about how valuable some of those old jars would have been to collectors.. but back then nobody was collecting.. they have since filled in that old dump and the jars are 20 feet under ground.. maybe someday aome archeoligists will unearth the site.. they will come up with a story how this was a homestead of some prehistoric tribe and how they must have met their demise by violence, judging by all the broken vessels. LOL

I am sipping on the last cup of yesterday's coffee.. YUCK!! after 10 o'clock, my daughter will come to take care of gramma and I will run to the restaurant for a decent cuppa..

the birds are waiting or breakfast, so I better go take care of them..

Morning folks! I'd appreciate some prayers for an old friend of mine, Casey. He was pinned by a tree at work on Tues (arborist) and he is in critical condition. He has broken bones, bruised organs, and spinal injuries, so he needs prayers in a big way. He is one of the most friendly and goofily happy guys you'd ever meet; he is young and a fighter and making progress already but more good thoughts can only help. Thanks all!

Oh Amy, that is terrible !! I certainly will keep him in my thoughts and prayers. My nieces husband is an urban forester and I worry about him everyday too !!! I'm glad to hear he is making progress. Being young definately is on his side.
