Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi , I just finished cutting up the deer.. I was going to wait until tomorrow,, but I went out at about 8pm to just saw off the front legs. then I went back out and cut off the front quarters.. and I just kept going back out for another piece and now the whole thing is in the freezer.. Freezer #6 CC.. Annie says that when we empty it towards spring , we can always resell it.. anybody want to take a bet that we will still have all 6 next winter ?

the calls are on the other side of Waupaca ..Now the gal wants to meet half way.. I am going to Wittenberg tomorrow, but that might be too short of notice for her to meet me.. Plus, i am not sure what time Annie wants to leave from home..

the deal we struck is 5 guineas for 2 call hens and 1 drake.

I kept the muscovys in a pen all last winter.. they did very well, so I guess I can keep the calls the same way.. I was hping to not have extra pens this winter, but the best laid plans of mice and man..

wow, that beer went down fast.. I must have been thirsty..

I better get to bed before I ggggggggetttt llllllliiiiiiiikkkkkke FFFFTTTTT.. LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

Yes CC, raspberries.. everbearing ones.. they are not as sweet as our spring/summer ones, but they still make good pie..
Annie makes a crumb crust, then just pours the uncooked berries in and tops it all off with real whipped cream.. Is it any wonder I have a bad heart ? LOL

) went to see CC today and get qt. canning jars. So nice to see people in their own "environment"

DrH, a face cord is 1/2 a full cord, right? So 20 face, would be 10 fulls right?

Then the 10 cords we'll have should about do it.

we're hoping that by next winter we can get a gas/wood burner for our system.

Well, time for bed. Night!

Good Windy Morning All! Cind if memory serves I think you get around 2 1/2 face cords out of a full cord. Not awake enough to do the math yet. Full cord = 100" x 4' x4' face cord is 16" x 4'x8'. CC was thinking you had a BA roo. My bad! Think the girls will probably come around but just thinking of options. A person has to have options. I'd have to build a whole new coop don't think I could cull any of them. Got to know them too well. Btwo and Goldie are a team. Btwo follows her around getting into everything they shouldn't! Bad Naughty Chickens!!! If I open just the walkin door on the garage one of those two is the first one thru the door and the other is not far behind.

WCc don't you just love it when others make plans for you at the last minute? I did that to myself and it wasn't planned. I went out with the intentions of digging out the tubafores for the shelves. Then thought gee it would be nice to build them in the garage. Ended up emptying out the boat. Had to dig out the motor stand and as long as that was out swept that area. Well now the boat is put away for the winter and the garage is 2/3rds clean and organized. Gonna finish cleaning the garage this morning and get the lumber moved in there so I can make another mess. Again dig a hole fill it in.

Gonna dig and freeze the last of the carrots today and pull the weed mats out so they dry and get them put away then next week I'll be able to weed and till the garden. And I'll clean the coop and throw that on there too. FT hope you get that tooth taken care of! That can be miserable. Gonna make a big b'fast for L and I want to get some food in her for her trip. At least the wind has died down and she won't get blown off the road. Have been watching the geese heading south for around a week and trees are really turning now. Think after the frost tonight they should be all in full color. Can appreciate it even being color blind. How about you Jim? Better get goin! Enjoy the sunshine good people!

Wow is everyone busy! Carol_ i can picture that all, but wow that sounds like alot of work,.
I just need it to stop raining for a few days so I can go pick berries and remove hte nettles that have grown into them due to stupid neighbors. And pick pears that need to be picked finally and go pick up some hay from my friends house so we can start winter proofing the coop. Dont do a ton, but put some hay bales up as a wind barrier to help. Soon as we mow for the last time this year ( has got to be soon) I can hook up my lights for supplemental light. Although we had a few days of good laying, lately been getting only 4 eggs from my 8 layers. Think that one of my unknown age birds is getting older and not laying much anymore. sigh... but my 2 unfriendly birds both just hit only 1... if they did not lay so good I would be more frustrated with them... need to hook up a camera in laying box and see who is doing the business.

Mornign all!!
My friend likes to write a blog about our "Adventures in Carol Land"... he even has followers.. wow...
I will post a link to it sometime.
We are off to the barn, cleaning the small coop/stall moving more chickens... and trying to find my green tarp.. hopefully before the county line..

Stay warm!
Carol

Just had the weirdest thing happen. I was sittin on the couch figuring out the exact sizes of the shelves and I was watchin Peatwo and 3 hens on the edge of the woods and I noticed the tops of the 4' high bushes movin kinda strangely. Here was a dang young chicken hawk it hopped on the ground and was chasin the hens ON THE GROUND! I opened the window and hollered but that didn't phase it so I ran outside and had to get with 20' of it to scare it off. Peatwo was throwing a fit but that didn't bother the hawk.

good morning,

looks nicer out today than yesterday, eh?

DrH, we can still enjoy the fall colors.. In my case, a lot of the colors are just not what other people see.. I am not white and gray color blind.. just have trouble with reds and greens.. It is hard to explain to non-color blind people.. I don't usually announce that I am to people, they always hold something up and say "what color is this ??" HeII, I just told you I was color blind !!!! LOL

there are 3 face cords of wood in a full cord of wood.. HOWEVER, there is no such thing as a facecord in legal weights and measures.. so a face cord can be anything the seller wants it to be.. beware of the guy who cuts the pieces 12 inches.. and there are guys who show you a nice pile of wood and then deliver other punky sh!t..

If you have a way to cut it,, slab wood is not a bad way to go.. lots of time there is no bark in the load.. I bought a semi load one time and it was all barkless oak.. that load lasted for a few years.. In ten minutes, you can saw enough for a day or two with a chain saw..

waiting for the call duck lady to call me back.. I might be able to transact the deal today..

DrH, that hawk just wanted to play, and you spoiled it..
