Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

She drove, she got mildly lost at the screwy new interchange, she got on track, she came. She showed me her "pet chickens" she had to bring (because they needed meds.) Very cute little girls

Let little "but dog" have a potty break. That little dog is such a good quiet dog, and we took the chickens to their new temp. digs. I put them in the brooder pen for now and will set something bigger up later. They looked so fluffy and down right cuddly....hope they'll be happy here. We woke up the flock

and played with the birds for a while. Good thing she came! When I'm down there I don't ware glasses (for close up) and she spotted a creepy crawly on Sissy (the bantam Turken) Guess I'll do the ivermectin now instead of the end of the month.

Figured it was about time for a dose anyway. Couldn't talk her into taking any of my roos!

Although she thought the Golden Comet ones were pretty... and they are. Very nice talking to her. I think the job her DH did on the truck window was good for a temp. fix, sure looked like it would hold anyway. At least he didn't do it with seat belts!

Wish she could have stayed longer but we both had things to do yet. Guess it was about midnight when she left. Wish she could have come when it was still light out so I could have showed her more.

FT... if you read this... DH said he could have some of those 5 gal. buckets for you Tue. and he'll see about some Italian beef too!

Thanks Jim! You still didn't tell me how much for the birdies

we haven't been down there for a few years.. but I will let you know if we ever get down that way.. we do not get to travel since Mom came to stay 5 years ago.. she will be 97 in ten days.//Oct 25th//

FT and DrH are both out of town, so I imagine the site will be quite quiet quickly tonight..

never did get back on here last night..... DS(6) decided he was hungry again at this time and so I had to reopen the kitchen for a snack

Hope your Mom has a good birthday! My aunt is 97 years old too, she has good days and not so good days-her arthritis(sp) bothers alot. She lives with her daughter and son-in-law so atleast she doen't have to be in a nursing home.

good morning, the guy who was going to come for some pullets decided to not come.. I wouldn't sell any of my barred rocks, and he was looking for heavy chickens.. I have a few Dels that would have satisfied him, but I don't want to sell them either..
I need to have some for hatching eggs in the spring.. I am not going to keep just 2 or 3 and then have to wait weeks to get a decent batch..

hope all your americauna will do well for you cind & chook..

H&R, my sister thinks she might know you.. You might know her as that overbearing old lady in the choir who sings badly and louder than everybody else.. LOL

the people who I have my roosters loaned out to are going to try to catch them so I can pick them up today.. I guess the chicks are really free ranging.. the people were not sure exactly where the roos slept at night.. they think; high up in the barn..

Annie is sure ambitious today.. she has a million of suggestions for me to do.. I have not even started to wake up.. my first cuppa went cold on me already.. and I am hardly dressed, there is a mental image for you to mull over..LOL

I decided to make jelly out of the 7 pounds of grapes my neice brought here.. we are down to 6 pints of the grape jelly I made a couple of years ago.. we still have 15 pints of blackberry, so good to go there..

Happy birthday to your Mom a little early! Wow...97...do you think you will live that long JIm? That is a long time to put up with you....

Last night we took all the tomatoes that I harvested yesterday and ran them through the Squeezo. THey cooked all night in the slow cookers and this morning are approaching sauce. I have a few ingredients to buy to add to it and then I will can it up. All that work and we will probably get 5 quarts...I was commenting how cheap tomato sauce is in the store...but it wont be as delicious DH said...yup, sometimes he says the right things!
So here are some last of the season garden pics:
Squash harvest:

Sweet peppers:

Hot peppers:
46457_img_4077.jpg

Tomatoes not including the romas which were another half bucket!
46457_img_4070.jpg

THis is the summer squash..still producing! Who ever heard of that in mid October?
46457_img_4073.jpg

And of course these guys had to get a last clutch in!
46457_img_4080.jpg

The ones that hatched last week are down to 4 from 10. That's this thing about ducks at this time of year...the mothers arent as good as chickens and they let them get too cold.
Oh yeah...I got a pick of Little Turk finally! What do you think? I am leaning towards hen with this one!

So there you have it, end of the season here...I pulled the pepper plants but the tomatoes will stay for a little bit yet...there are more on there that might yet ripen. I still have brussels sprouts and potatoes in there too. The blue chickens are anxious to get it tilled up for me! Guess I will have to use chicken power this year...
Off to the store to get my ingredients...have a fantastic day! Terri O

(PS) glad you had a good trip FT! Too bad you ran out of time to stop here....

Morning all! Had a terrible nights sleep, Damien kept waking up crying. I only get a rough 4-5 hours a night, so it was very frustrating to have to get up 3 times during my stretch of sleep.

Looks like FT had so many sights to see!

DH is out bow huntin' at our Dr. friends house. Asked him if he saw anything, no dice yet.

We may go apple picking/pumpkin picking today. There is a little place that also has PYO concord grapes for a buck a lb. Maybe get some for wine making. These orchards are getting 30 bucks a bushel here for apples! Man!! I have been looking for a place with windfalls, but no dice cept upnorth. I just want to make applesauce, they don't need to be gorgeous. Sheesh.

well...gonna look at making some cookies soon...

HI, I saw and ad on c/list for grapes for $1.oo/pound pick your own in Stratford.. After getting grapes for free for so long, that seems steep to me.. it takes $20.oo worth to make 5 gallons of wine.. plus 12 pounds of sugar.. comes to about $6.oo/gallon..
I guess it is still cheaper than buying wine..eh?

No TerriO, I do not plan on being here when I am 97.. but I might not have a choice in the matter.. My dad always used to say, "I am going to live to be 120 because I am 60 now and I feel like I am half dead."

TO><< nice late harvest.. I guess we all know where you will be for a few days.. My sweet peppers never turn out that nice..

we pulled our tomato plants 2 weeks ago.. what a difference 100 miles south makes.. and you southerners get a 2 week jump on us in the spring, too..

I got 3 of 4 roosters back this morning.. 1 barred rock which we will keep, 1 RI Red and 1 Leghorn (I think).. the lady said that without any coaxing from them, their 1 year old son started to crow.. LOL too cute..

after bragging to Brent how my tractor started so good, this morning it had a dead battery... God'll getcha every time..

there was a bad accident on the highway.. the man lost his left eye, his left ear, his left arm and his left leg... the doctors said they figured he would be all right from now on..
