Like I said Jim it's just killin me that his isn't running! Donny stopped over and dropped off a new top link for the 3 pt.
rant.gif
He had a couple of new stabilizer pieces and a draw bar from TSC for it. I told him that it didn't come with the tractor when he bought it and to take it back seeing as how he was selling it to me for the same price as he bought it for. He did then bought the top link for me.
somad.gif
Told him I owe him $20 something. I'll catch up with him when the dead cow comes early next month. Man is that steer looking nice! Goes in on the 2nd.

When he dropped it off yesterday he said ya know if your gonna make that garden bigger you should plow and disc now. He knew I was already thinking about it. I was looking at fencing while at Home Depot this morning. Welded wire was $56-50' plastic was $18- 25'. Thinking plastic then roll it up at the end of the year. Was there to get that mirror for L, no got, on line only so ordered it when I got home. Might be a few days late but I look at it like she wasn't expecting anything anyway but will tell her on Sat. that it's coming and will be installed by spring
gig.gif
Anyway Donny saw a draw bar on the tractor and asked where it came from told him it was bolted to the root hook and seeings as how I didn't plan on using it anymore this year I took it off. Picked up a clevis for it today for dragging. Wish this wind would calm down!

Hey All!!
Nice Buck Bigz!!!
Welcome back Dornes!! we missed ya.
I am hiding from the wind and yucky weather inside. I got the parakeets moved off the front porch which is enclosed, but we had a heater in there, and wanted to move it out.
So they got moved into the dining room and have a clamp light on them since they are on an interior wall. They have new toys, new perches to play on and more food dishes. I only like to feed them every other day or so, so they don't waste their food.
I have to go upstairs to put laundry away.. uggh...
The chickens are doing fine...
Speaking of deer and doing self butchering... the handyman at Joan's (where the chickens and horses are), got 2 does from his brother, he did a good job on them. And TO got some of that meat!! His brother or dad gave him a 3rd doe.. and he let it rot.. hanging in the shed for days!! and days, in those 80 degree days.. he finally cut it up and bagged it.. it then sat for a few days in the back of his truck until he took it to dispose it.
I was up in the shed the other day, there is a hoof and part of the lower leg still hanging from a rope... ewww...

Take care all I will be back on later

I am back.. took Mom to Merrill for Dr appt. Apparently she is fine, because they set up another appt for Jan. 2012..

Now, tell us truthfully DrH,, do you or do you not like that tractor ?? LOL I often thought of fencing in my garden, but then I would have trouble driving in there with a tractor.. With the new garden, I could make it work because I have lots of room on each end.. but on the other hand, the neighbor could never have room with his huge tractor to turn around when he brings manure.. I need the manure more than I need a fence..

I had a brain storm today.. If I could find 200 feet of heavy railroad ties, I could build a dike instead of digging a ditch.. then I can still mow the grass along the ditch on either side of the dike.. and I could build it far enough onto my land so it would not be part of the road right of way.. so there, township..

Theres this weird lady that keeps emailing me about call ducks and bantam cochins that I have listed on Craigslist. She says she's interested, then when I email back she changes her mind. I think she's only changing her mind because she discovers it's me selling them. I was in contact with her this summer about buying call ducks from her. she calls herself a hatchery and doesn't seperate her ducks by color. So she has no standard colored ducks. I had an issue because I wanted a drake but I wanted to hand pick it, not just meet her somewhere and have her shove off a bad looking duck on me. But because of her hatchery status I was not allowed on her property. I asked her to at least send me a picture of the duck she wanted to sell me. It was not up to par for my breeding program and I think she was offended. If your call duck has a bill like a mallard it is not breeding with my hens! So anyway, just had to rant about that because she responded to an ad of mine on Best farm buys today and pulled the same old thing.

Hi Dornes nice to c you.

Thanks Robin. I called the vet back and decided to give it one more day. Tiger is just taking water and am giving her some pepto bismol. She hasnt thrown up since this moring. I will be giving her some white rice and hamburger in the morning and see how that goes.
fl.gif
If she is not better then we will be going to the vet. She has never been overweight so you can immagine she is very very thin now without any food for going on 4 days. I have to watch her like a hawk now so she doesnt go to the neighbors. I have to lock her inside when I do the chores because i cant watch her.

Well Huh BBP. Its aggravating sometimes. I just put an add on CL for mixed banties recently and get some one emailing me." How many?" Thats all it says. Then later. "I will take them." I dont think so. If I cant have a decent conversation with the person and see if its a good home they arent going anywhere.

Tiki,

Sorry to hear Tiger isn't up to par. Hope the rice and hamburger do the trick. For people don't the do the BRAT diet. Bananas, Rice, Applesause & Toast? I think that is for the runs tough and not for throwing up.

I hear you guys as far as CL. I've been scanning the CL while I'm down here and I can't believe how many dogs are under a year old and they don't have time for them !!! You mean to tell me you had no idea how much time a dog needs when you brought it home and paid probably a back yard breeder big bucks for it. Just made room for one more dog at their place !!! GRRRR !!!
I called one person on the N side of Milw and I swear their answering machine had at least 5 minutes of rap or whatever musci screaming out !!!! I kept yelling hello cause I wasn't sure if they were parting or if it was the machine ???

Geez !!! If it wasn't all the way on the north side of Milw I would have gone and grabbed the poodle out of their hands !!!!! Didn't want to give her $200 to give it a good home, not in the kennel all day like they are doing. And wow that music was loud !!!!

So guess what I am saying is there are alot of chooks out there and they ain't chickens. I think the majority of us BYC'rs are 100 times better just because we care enough to get on here and learn all we can. All CL idiots have to have is internet access and bingo they post or answer an ad,

To, btw Milw CL has tons of T turtles. Can't spell tortise (sp)

Ok, gotta go eat with my Aunt and Sister. I ate my left over Chinese today and not very hungry so I'll just have soup!!!

CC, are you gonna be up after 10 tonight. I can stop for the buckets then.

Hope the weather warms up, we are suppose to go to the pumpkin farm tomorrow with the baby !!! G@d she's a doll !!!! And smart !!!! Don't remember my nieces being that smart but that was 30 years ago !!!

Ok, gotta run !!

Hi everyone! Welcome back Dornes! How is school going for you? I am hoping you find it easy...I put together my cart from Shopko today and the corners of 4 drawers are broken
sad.png
I called and they dont have any more but the Janesville store does...guess my client and me are taking a drive tomorrow! She has been bugging me about going to Janesville (for some reason she loves it there) so it will be good to tell her that we are going....then I can have her shop in Milton at the Pig...it is a nice small store and she cant get carried away...now If I could just get ahold of Deb...we could stop and have a visit! She is probably frozen by now....are you out there Deb??? "Need" a visitor tomorrow afternoon?
pop.gif

Well I broke down today and turned the furnace on...makes me sad to hear it run. Kind of like watching your money go out the chimney....and the windows and the doors and the cracks and the crevices....no plastic mounted up yet and that wind is howling! Baking some squash with sausage for tonight and some sweet potatoes with lime and cilantro...probably will make some creamed peas and some Pak Choi too...gotta use up this produce before it goes bad! Speaking of BAD!...what was your friend thinking letting a deer rot Carol? That is just wrong on so many levels! He should have donated it if he didnt have time to process it or the $$ to have it done! Upsetting to say the least! Give him this for me
smack.gif
To bad you didnt know about it when FT was here...you could have sent it back with her so she coulda told her DH that at least SHE got one!
gig.gif

So tomorrow I am going to the neighbors' place to learn about using wax when butchering. Then I am borrowing their killing cones...thinking about if I can work on using their plucker too...it might be built in though...not sure. We are doing ducks. (I might bring one of mine along...wonder if she would mind? Before I butcher a bunch of them with Elaine I want to make sure I like how they taste! I love duck but am thinking that the muskovys might be too lean for me...I Really like the skin the best!OMG--my mouth is watering just thinking about it!
droolin.gif
I am NOT kidding!

Well I am going to head out and lock up early tonight. I think all the birdies are probably in alaready. Oh yeah, caught that naughty pigeon last night! He has taken to roosting in the shed near the parents' cage. I just reached over and grabbed him! He looked happy today to be in!

Oh H&R...those little cuckoo boys are out of Quarantine and they follow me all over the farm! Today I didnt realize that they were behind me and they came right up the steps and were ready to come into the kitchen with me! I thought you said they werent that tame being raised outside! It must be the Marans breed hey? Although my Ameracaunas follow me too...they just want treats though!

Later all! Terri O--who's mouth is STILL watering thinking about eating duck! MMMMMMMMMMMMM!

Hi, all. TO, I turned on the heat today, too. Hoping it'll only be for a day or two -- I'm not ready to have it on all the time yet... I found some stuff on the internet about cooking muscovy ducks that I found interesting so I'll post it in a sec. I'm excited you're borrowing cones & hoping, hoping, hoping
fl.gif
the other part is movable! Keep me posted on your progress - have a safe trip to FL! I'm jealous!

Here's the info on muscovy:

Lots of flavor, big value, little fat
Muscovy duck has a unique taste: it is lean, meaty, tender and flavorful. A 4 lb. Muscovy has the highest yield of any duck available and 50 percent more breast meat than other ducks. Muscovy breast meat is 99 percent lean and the skin of our duck has 50% less fat than the Moulard or Pekin varieties! Did you know that Muscovy ducks have less fat and less calories per pound than turkey? (http://grimaudfarms.com/duck.htm)

The Muscovy must be cooked differently than any other duck, as it's not related to other ducks and the meat is totally different. The tender (if cooked right) meat has a taste more like tender beef (ie veal) than your regular ducks and there's little to no fat at all on them. Mine don't even make much pan drippings to work with without a little cheatin'.

Don't roast it.

Muscovy ducks have considerably less fat than Pekin (Long Island, etc.) duck. They are a very different breed of duck, much more akin to the maigret you would find in Europe than the bird that oozes fat all over your oven.

I find the best treatment is to simply cook the boneless breast meat, then use the legs in a bean stew/braise, and make a broth/stock from all the other parts.

There are any number of good recipes for the boneless breast, but they differ mostly in the sauce. The basic technique involves scoring the skin and sub-surface fat (but not the meat), browning in an oven-proof skillet, then finishing in a hot oven. You want to serve this bird rare to medium rare. Anything beyond that will be cardboard.

It is delectable eating!

By Bob Libkind on Feb 4, 2003 05:13PM I totally agree with Bob—I once roasted Muscovy ducks the same way the other posters are suggesting, and it was as dry as leather. I have had excellent success roasting whole unboned Muscovy breasts for shorter periods in a hot oven, however. Use a regular Pekin or Long Island duck for the other suggested recipe.

Windy Evening All.... Thanks for all the kind Congrats. You guys are truly the best!

Yep FT we are in the herd control area here. I don't usually harvest any does unless we are in need of meat, or the DNR makes you with their EAB program! I was lucky that my last surgery was on my eye that I close when aiming through the peep sight Cind...lucky for me, that's for sure.

Jim and Doc you're killing me with the tractor stuff....think it's funny
somad.gif
Did you mention what you paid for the 9N Doc?

Yep, puters suck CC. Sounds like the Vikes are gonna make him a starter. I was glad when MC nabb went to the vikes , cause he sucks bad.

TO that's funny about the truck upgrade! Just have the topper off for Fall chores. They are nice for keeping stuff out of the weather, but in the way for loading and unloading stuff. I only dream of a new full size truck! Yep $50 is fair if they do a good job. I skinned mine today and removed the tenerloins....tomorrow we will quarter and start cutting.
The white vinegar is way cheaper than cream of tarter, you'll have to give er a try.

We have a hen with compacted crop...gave her some canola oil and massaged the crop. Wish i could do more, hope it helps. I think she has been this way awhile, it slowed her down and I noticed her. she is very thin. bummer.... bigz

Hi again! Thanks for that most interesting link Elaine! I read the whole thing. I will have to try some of the methods suggested for Muskovy. My friends that I will see tomorrow said that they have had it 3 times this year and it was excellent so I will have to get a recipe or method from her. When I go back out I am planning on catching up one of the ducks to take along...probably wont see any now that I know I want to catch one!

You are prolly right about the vinegar Brent...I will try that next time--thanks! Thought about you today, I found more vanilla coke at the Sentry! They never have it when it's on sale though! I hope your hen makes it...one of the Bucks or the Javas? I have never had that particular problem here...yet. I have the topper off my truck too...makes for much easier work when hauling hay...not so much for feed though! Especially when it starts raining on the way home. I tend to leave it in the truck too when the top is on...a nice storage place for sure!

Well, gonna go out and close doors--fed everyone already earlier so they could get full crops to go to perch with-makes ME feel better! NOw the wont move when I go out and close the doors.Well, until the see the net for the duck...good night and sweet dreams everyone! Terri O
