The tractor is in excellent shape no leaks anywhere, no unusual noises, and very clean. Got a snow bucket, dirt bucket, heavy pallet forks, root hook, plow, disc, a 3pt weight barrel set up, and use of a brush hog and back blade for $3,400. Used to be able to pick them up pretty cheap but so many starting doing the farmette thing. So for these days and times think I got a real good deal! The right wheel brake is gettin there. I want to have an interlock bracket made so both brakes are engaging and I know just the guy that would love to make it. He has an 8N and loves his tractor too!

I have pretty much decided not to make the garden bigger, at least not this year.

Thinking maybe next year another garden where the front yard is currently.

So many ideas, so little time. The house never really warmed up yesterday until I threw some more wood in, ya I was surprised too. So I have it nice and toasty this morning and I swear I'm gonna make some bread! And some black cherry jello with fruit cocktail in it.

Still nasty outside so it's mostly inside stuff today. The wind is supposed to die down this aft so I might give the Case a bath. Poor Peatwo is moulting worse than any of them and spends most of his day hiding from the wind. His feathers are coming back but not fast enough for him. Wonder if I could modify an electric sock for him?

Good almost afternooon! I went to my neighbors' place today...they have a really great "line" set up for butchering...best art is that two of their kids and a grandkid showed up to help! The great GD was there too but she is only little! So the son used the killing cones on the other side of the door. then he would bring the ducksin tow at a time and dunkthem into a horse tank with heated water. The plucker is right nest to that and he would pluck them off. The next guy (Jerry) dunked them into the wax water then into a tub with cold water. after stripping them of the wax and pins he put them behid him into a stationary tub with cold water. The next person (Terry) reached behind or got handed ducks to draw. She cuts the ends off the gizzards so she doesnt have to clean them out. Cuts neck and feet off with a lopping shears! (great idea--and I have an extra!) Those go into separte buckets in front of her. She uses a fillet knife to do the opening and trimming. Then puts them into another stationary tub where the GD and daughter take them out and final pin them with TWEEZERS! WOW--those birds were CLEAN when done! Everyone has a short hose with sprayer to rinse their area off when needed. A very nice and quick operation...then get out to the shed at 6 and are done by 8. About 35 birds....
The son(who has had much of his jaw removed from cancer) said that he was available to help me butcher...I asked him how much he charges and he said NOTHING! Just give him a call and he will come down and help. These are the most generous folks I know I swear!

OK I have to go to work. Sorry Jim, prolly nothing for you to learn from my experience. That was pretty much how they worked the wax too. Only thing was that they had a little electric heater built under the tub to keep the water/wax warm enough. Also a heater right in the stock tank for the water. You should see the plucker Jerry built...heavier duty that the one that my friend bought!
Later! TErri O

TO) This post is for you!!

The way we do our ducks is pluck the breast, breast them out, and then pluck the thighs and take those out. After doing a few whole ones, we figured the wings def weren't worth it, and I had no plans to make duck stock so out it went. Heck, I don't think you even need to gut em if you're careful!!

You also posted something about a food or something and doing something with it...but now I can't find it. Maybe it's on the canning forum. brb to edit this.

ETA: Oh found it! It was about your pepper plants and pulling them. I read on a garden forum that if you cut the stem, pull off all the leaves and put them in a vase of water (think of flowers) that they will ripen that way!! Leave the peppers attached to the stem. I haven't tried it yet, but I need too. My peppers are gonna die if I leave em out any longer lol.

good afternoon, I got jerked out of bed before 8am with the dog barking.. someone at the door.. the guy who said he wanted all my ducks was here,, He took all nine that were visible.. One is still on an unknown nest..
then my sister showed up and we started draining the coffee pot..
Then Annie came home from work with a bunch of donuts., so a little more coffee.
I still have to deliver eggs, pick up a cage with removable pans for cleaning for the quails,,,
and look at a tandem wheel trailer.. something long enough to haul my tractor if I need to.. $685.oo..
and that should take care of this day's activities..

I braved the cold wind and fed and watered eerything.. even filled the goose pools with water..

I turned all the roosters loose and watched the pecking order take place.. I like to monitor that so nobody gets hurt.. all is calm and quiet with the 5 big roosters, now.. I don't know who is boss, though.. I doubt they even know.. each one thinks he is, I guess..

DrH, that is not a bad price considering all the attachments, (and loaner attachments) you got.. I might have asked this before, but is your bucket a trip , or hydraulic ? I had to convert mine to hydraulic..

On my 8N I had a 55al drum filled almost full of concrete.. the only problem with that one was that it could swing and hit the PTO shaft.. with my Oliver55 I just use either the back blade or the the cultivators for counterweight.. I also have fluid in the rears..(tractor tires, not mine).. just heading off any comments from FT..

My daughter gifted me with the bone crusher, It was not expensive, I do believe..

I better go get the rest of my scheduled chores done..

My little kitty is going to his new home tonight. A home with toddlers! I was promised that they will not be allowed to hurt this little guy. We're getting our last bit of cuddling in right now. I wish I could keep him

good afternoon, I am back from selling eggs and buying a nice trailer.. the trailer is strong enough to haul my tractor.. only drawback is it does not have ramps wide enough for my tractor... It does have a 48" wide ramp for snowmobiles.. Tomorrow, I have to get a 2" ball hitch for my Blazer to pull it home..

speaking of drawbacks,, about that cute cuddly kitten : it will grow up to be a CAT..

I was at a taxidermy shop today.. A guy brought in a hide from an antalope that was shot by that sherriff and his mob who shot all those exotic animals and endangered tigers..
Yeah, we all know how dangerous to the public an antalope is, eh? Just let one of us go out without a license and shoot a squirrel , and see what they would do to us,,

TerriO, I wonder what kind of plucker your friend built.. Is it a WhizBang type ? I built two of them,, sold the first one and still have the second one.. I know a guy in the UP who (had/has) one for sale.. I think he was asking about $350.oo for it.. that is about half price of the material to build one..
maybe I can get Sandi to send a picture of mine to see if it is the same kind..

I am NOT ready for this cold weather.. Deb, if you can read this, blink your eyes twice.. I know with all those extra clothes on, you cannot reach your mouse or keyboard.. might have to take off those heavy mittens to click or type..
