Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Ah, I've seen those birds and they get about 6 feet tall.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emu
The soft-feathered, brown, flightless birds reach up to 2 metres (6.6 ft) in height. Emus can travel great distances at a fast, economical trot and, if necessary, can sprint at 50 km/h (31 mph) for some distance at a time. Their long legs allow them to take strides of up to 275 centimetres (9.02 ft)[6] They are opportunistically nomadic and may travel long distances to find food; they feed on a variety of plants and insects, but have been known to go weeks without food. Emus ingest stones, glass shards and bits of metal to grind food in the digestive system. They drink infrequently, but take in copious fluids when the opportunity arises.

Emus use their strongly clawed feet as a defence mechanism. Their legs are among the strongest of any animals, allowing them to rip metal wire fences. They are endowed with good eyesight and hearing, which allows them to detect predators in the vicinity.

Emus are large birds. The largest can reach up to 150 to 190 centimetres (59–75 in) in height, 1 to 1.3 metres (3.3–4.3 ft) at the shoulder. Emus weigh between 18 and 55 kilograms (40 and 121 lb).[16][17][18] Females are usually larger than males by a small amount, but are substantially wider across the rump.

Season 2, episode 20 of American Pickers has an emu on it. It's pretty hilarious if anyone has Netflix or something similar (streaming video).

I didn't mean to sound like I'm contradicting you, MLH. I luv ya!

I just want people to know what they're getting into BEFORE they get into it & wind up saying "uh-oh, time to get rid of them".

just curious, not looking to add an EMU not enough space, but always interesting to learn about things!

better not! I feel as though I forgot something that I typed before.
oh I remember something else I was going to say, um someone (H&R??) about a kids coughing barky??? we got a letter from the school stating that someone in school has whooping cough????? I thought that's part of the immun. shots? why is it even a problem anymore?
I think that's all? Gotta run!

Will wonders never cease? My hubby joked how I should just put a baby monitor down by the Bator, so I did! He actually had a good idea!!! Now I will stay in bed unless I hear a bunch of cheeping. Please babies... Come on out for Momma....

Here are the paint silkies. See the black spots. I guess the spots get bigger and they can also get more spots as they get older. Love love love them !!

Like CC said, just bring them upstairs with ya. H3LL just bring the bator in the bedroom for the night. And so you don't wake the hubby, bring a flashlight too !! lol

I don't even have my TV on right now. I'm watching chick TV. Feel like I'm at the fights !!! These little chicks are doing the stare downs and want to act like big birds !!! Then are looking up and want to fly out too !!! They are only a week old for crying out loud. And CC I know what you mean. I left to get chicken food and by the time I cam back the one black silkie with brown downy fuzz has sprouted more feathers and has less brown fuzz already. They are so weird looking now. half fuzz half feathers !! I finally ground up some of the Nutrena crumbles for the new babies. That does make it allot easier for them to eat. The one week olds did OK without me doing it but I think it's a good idea to grind it up. Why make babies work so hard for food !!!
I also noticed a small drop of reddish poop in the one week olds so right away I put some corrid in their water. They are on medicated chick feed but just to be safe. I also gave a tiny amount of corrid in the new babies water too.

The only egg that didn't hatch again was the Dutch Bantam. I cracked it open and it had made it to lock down. So far I've put in about 4 and non hatched. I'll have to read about them. Their eggs are so small. I'm thinking maybe the shells are to hard for them to pip?

The pony is I think a Shetland. The guy I got some of my peahens from had him. He wanted $75 for him. I told him I'd give him $50 and then he wouldn't need to pull a coggins when he brought him to the auction. Supposedly Gio rides and drives. He was ridden by Amish kids. He was a bit shy when I got him but once he figured out where the treats come from he has come around.
He is about 4 yrs old. He won't get any bigger. He's smaller then my Pony of America (POA) and she's the size of my standard donkeys if that tells you anything. I haven't sticked any of them. Will do that when the snow is gone.
I know isn't he adorable !! I couldn't resist him. I bought him to give to my sisters Granddaughter some day. I haven't told my sister yet. She thinks I'm nuts the way it is and the baby is only 1 yr old but boy can she ride that rocking horse !!! My sister and I keep buying her pony things !!!! She hasn't seen a real horse yet. Don't want to traumatize her for life !!! LOL
I met a guy at the feed store today that said he made a feeder out of PVC pipe and he got the recipe on BYC !!! The feed store lady spoke up and said "She is on there all the time" meaning me !!! LOL
He's not a regular but I told him where to find us !! So we shall see if Steve shows up !!!

Why oh why do people say on here pip to hatch is ...... Hours?! My poor chickie is still in his egg and has not zipped at all. I can see his little beak come near the pip whole when I talk to him. But the poor wee thing just needs to move it along a bit! I honestly will be more patient with the other 5, but I need to see one chick OUT!!! Please LORD, help the little guy! (and with 5 boys, I refer to everything in the masculine tense. With 2 male cats as well, I just want a girl ANYTHING rather badly...)

AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
