well TerriO, that worked ..
those are the goslings that were hatched on/and around Christmas.. that was their first day of freedom from the brooder pen.. they have not bonded with the big geese yet.. the big geese tried for a couple of days, but after being rejected by these little guys, they gave up.. so now I have two flocks of geese.. I make them all go into the guinea pen together at night . though..
somebody asked me if I kept chickens in my breeder/brooder pens during the winter.. yes.
you can see the BR roo in the right door.. he has 6 girlfriends in there with him.. and no, they won't use that barrell shaped canvas "nest" they just scraped all the hay out of it and lay their eggs next to the waterer..
this weekend I am going to start these BR's on laying mash.. I figure in about two weeks it should be warm enough to start collecting eggs for the incubator.. then the turkeys should be getting into full swing also..
I want to start letting all the turkeys and chickens from the main coop out each day.. I just know that there are going to be some terrific rooster fights, though.. I might have to watch the red rooster.. he is free ranging already and has been trying his darnedest to get into the main chicken coop..
I have a good picture of him.. anybody want a good rooster? I have one red hen to go with him.. I might just put them on Craig's list as a pair.. I am not going to keep him, no matter what.. If I had about 3 or 4 more pens to separate the breeds, I would keep them..
I can see what my project for early this summer will be.. pens, pens pens.. (and planting boxes).....
I am really tempted to build a moderate sized green house.. and abandon the garden except for corn.. I do not think I would heat it, just like the idea of extending my growing season for a few weeks on each end..
fut first, I have to get outside and feed the flocks..
