Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

hi folks,

long day ,,,most snow I've seen in years from one 12hr storm, got at least 20" of wet stuff 25mph gusts and steady 13mph winds made for some drifting I tellya,,,geeze. That wind was my friend,,nothing stuck to the greenhouse,,sides are piled up 8' though,,,needs to be gone asap

DD got stuck in the drive, good thing,,, she was determined to try and get to work,,,,much better stuck at home than on the road

All schools and functions shut down, I was surprised at all the small businesses closed,,,must have needed a snow day. Should be a big weekend for bubble heads around town.

Town crews finally got the side roads opened early afternoon, friend came and cleared the drive, I stucked my ole tractor which added to the delightful day,,,,,,tomorrows 1st project then finish cleanup

Dinner involved a huge pot of chili, cubed backstrap and home made chirizo,,nummm

FT where do you buy feed? I'm always looking for sources I haven't checked with Farmers Feed in Rhinelander, that's on my list for next trip over

thought there must be a pic that I can't see on bf4's post,,,I must be tired

old guy needs his pillow,,,night all

I buy my feed at Townline Feeds
W7290 Price-Polar Rd
Bryant Wi 54418

It's about 10 miles East of Antigo.

Thanks for the link Julie

I can NOT get this story out of my mind: 50,000 chickens in Cali left without food for over two weeks!! Less than 5,000 made it. I wish I could somehow adopt a couple. I sure hope and pray they prosecute the owner.

There are some really touching stories and pictures of a hen seeing the sun, grass, outside for the first time ever, and how some of these were so weak they couldn't even hold up their heads...had forgotten even how to eat.

You can donate to help with the cost of food, vet care, and adoptions:

Tiki, I really hope you're feeling better real soon. Funny story about the pullet crowing.

Bf4, that milkhouse sounds beyond awesome! But I'm a little confused. You have outbuildings & a barn. So why do you need a coop built? Are the other buildings already filled?
Sorry to hear about the snow up nort. Well, not really.

We got socked not long ago and you all laughed, so

But honestly, spring can just get here already, for ALL of us. Thank goodness for tractors, hey Jim? You guys just take it easy clearing that stuff. Oh wait. I almost forgot who I was talking to.

Bigz, are those orangehearts anything like the oxheart tomatoes? An Amish paste type? Those would be awesome. I can only eat the lower acid tomatoes, so I usually get yellow ones or romas. I just love canning those Amish paste tomatoes.

Terri, I've been working with that one chick & she seems to be improving slightly. Sometimes they get untucked, but she has been getting them back into position by herself from time to time. It's pretty time consuming, but hopefully it'll be worth it. Thank you for the advice and sharing your wisdom.

Crazy weather down here too. Cloudy, then the sun came out & it got into the 50s. Then TO jinxed it & the clouds & wind blew in like the dickens, just howling like crazy. Then it started raining, then it turned to slushy horizontal sleet, but at least it seems to be melting so far. NOT a very good weather day down here either. The girls were not at all pleased. While they love the dryness of their carport, they're getting a little restless to be pecking on some nice fresh grass. And my older batch of chicks really need to get moved to larger accomodations. I just wish it would warm up a tad so we could put them out with Jack. C'mon, spring!

Lovely. I hear a cat horking. Guess I have to go clean that up....... Oh well. Sweet dreams, all!

Hi ALL!

Glad you all survived the snow! Like CC said... cold and rainy here with a few flakes mixed in now.

CC... may have to give a couple of those links a call.

Well, I took a better look at Jasmine and her limp. Looks like she may have broken a toe or her foot. I brought her in and will look at it better later. If I splint it do you think it will heel? How well do chickens do with breaks? Hate to put her down but ....
hmm.png
Since she's getting broody again maybe this would be a good time to try to splint it and let her just sit for 3 weeks

May be back later... may not...I'll say night all! to you now!

Evening All!!

I finally got the pics of the probable langashan hen
.

And here are my Jaerhon/blue Cuckoo Maran hens ( i had a broody hen and put two eggs under her)

One definitely took after the Jaerhon mom, and the other after my blue cuckoo rooster

And my new rooster I got from TO- Terry the Rooster
Not all of him, just his gorgeous tail and fluffy butt

Good morning! Yeah first one to post! I will take some pics today of buildings for you viewing pleasure. I set 6 eggs in my Brinsea just now, and will put the rest in the hovabator after the kids are at school. Hooray for spring (ok its coming!) :D

Good March Morning All! Bf4 those pics will just kill me! Oh the good stuff I could have if I had the room. tiki that sucks being sick. Hope your on the mends soon! Purty chickens there WCc! Love the look of that prob langashan hen! Bigz did the garden thing the other day and came up with a very short list for seeds this year but a lot more plants. Haven't had much luck starting my own plants. Going to put in some new red taters this year just for eatin, have no way to store them other than canning, maybe some day? CC I was Temporary Duty at Ft Bliss Tx and we'd cross over into Mex and there were guys hawking donkey shows, never went though. I doubt that GI's are even allowed to cross these days. Didn't open the paint can yesterday. Good neighbor Donny came over for a couple of hours. He got served divorce papers from his wife of nearly 35 years. Her complaint is that he's never home. He hasn't been home for 35 years! He's always helpin someone or takin care of his place. It's just surreal! He's 62, retired, and the house is just about paid for. It just sucks!!!!! We got 3-4" of slush here. It's going to have to warm up if that stuff freezes it's going to be miserable! Can't plow it. Have some errands to run this morning then maybe pop that can of paint.

Good morning. Well we lost 2 more chicks between last night and this morning. The one that died last night was one that looked shaking when they got here. I thought it was doing better but it slept most of the day. The one this morning was weird, it looked like it was having a seizure (Or maybe choked ?). It was fluttering , lifted its head really high then fell over backwards. I called Merer yestarday about the 1 DOA and they said to call them back Friday to let them know how many total die by then so they can credit my account and give me free shipping on my next order. I was actually suprised with the kids this morning, none of them got upset over the chicks dieing. I guess I drilled it in their head enough about survial of the fittest. That or they just want an excuse to order more chicks . Anyway, I better get off the internet, I got a call from my mom last night that her and my little sister are coming up for the weekend. I want to make sure this place is spic and span. My mom use to own a cleaning business so yeah she can pick out a dust mite 50 yards away lol . Oh and to top it off, the cat just came in and OH MY GOD I think he rolled in something dead. He's gonna need a bath asap and it isnt going to be fun. yuck talk to ya all later.

Morning all- overcast here this am- reminds me of an Eeyore day!

Tiki- hope you feel better soon, seems to going around

Bigzo- thanks for thinking of us with the snow! Probably better that we didn't get it- my mom has been in the hospital since Sunday late afternoon- she wasn't feeling good several days before so my dad took her in- good thing they went, the doctors did a CT scan on her and it showed that she has a small brain anuersym so they transfered her to a hospital in Milwuakee and did an MRI on her also. She is feeling better and sounding better when we talk to her on the phone, they are monitoring everything and as long as she improves that is all they will do for now. My dad goes back and forth everyday so good roads is welcome for him right now. The begining of the week was very stressful let me tell you. We also had several places to get ready again, some complete turnovers and a few that needed repairs done. Of course when you already have a list that has a deadline some other emergancy always pops up- DH had to remove some laminate flooring yesterday because there was water coming in on it, the ground outside is wet and so it's not draining right away- so that will have to dry out and be replaced- never run out of work at this rate!

MLH- how is SG doing with the eggs?? Still sitting on them?? It will be neat to see what hatches! After you left we combined the older 2 hatches plus the little pair of bantam leghorns all together and the group seems to be doing good. McNugget- the lt brown bantam leghorn- likes his new role of keeping everyone in line- the older chicks didn't dare pick on the younger chicks to much!! Took another good luck at the Andalusian chicks we hatched out and we're seeing more boys than girls
barnie.gif
, hoping that we get a couple of Blue Andalusian girls so DD will have at least 1 to take to fair as a pullet!

Well have a good day- back to paper work and such!
