Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

BF4M- Let the stalking begin! Just kidding, nice place you have. I love to see old farms where the barns are kept up and not allowed to just fall down! The up keep is the hardest and $$ for sure! I got lucky and most of the up keep on the barn in my avitar was done by the cheese factory next door when they used it for storage!

And for my little SPH, I fed some scrambled eggs and turned the heat up a little in the brooder last night and just observed, she did eat the egg and feed and got water. Well she did not move far from the heat but the others moved out further. Then this morning came and that little chickie was full of piss and vinegar! I think she was just the runt and will keep the heat up a little longer than normal and let everyone else move out from the heat!

weekend project...build large 3x8 brooder and move chicks out to covered front porch!..had to edit size of brooder already, realized it wouldn't fit out the door!

Thanks,

Joe

No one tell me its a dump. My husband grew up here until his dad died when he was 9. He then lived with his mom in Milton for a few years until he was old enough to move back to the house (she kept it and the farm land). It is very special to him. Would love to have it completely tip top... but that costs lots of money and time.

Anyway... will take suggestions as to what to do with the coop...

Um yeah I'm jelous ! :) As for the milk house, my moms has a shed identicle to it at her house in Illinois. I swear the inside pic you could have taken at her house lol, her's is used to store bikes and stuff.

Apyl... For fun you can look up feather sexing on you tube. It does wing feather the first 2-3 days of life. I get some right, I get some wrong. Use a little nail polish (not red) or something else to mark one of the sexes. Then you just have to WAIT until you see Roo stuff. And your silkies... It will be months before you know!

Cool thanks. I will check it out. Oh and sshhhhh I'm suppose to be cleaning lol but I keep finding myself here.

DrH, that is just terrible about Donny. After 35 years? That woman might need her head examined?

What a shame. Please give him my best.

H&R, I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. I hope she gets better soon. My aunt had one a few years back and she recovered completely. I hope your mom does the same.

Yes Tiki, they do get acclimated to being in the house rather easily, don't they? Just wait until they start doling out the guilt trips when it's time to go back outside.

Awwww, sweet chickies, Apyl. I'm glad everyone arrived healthy. As for knowing the sexes, the only real way to tell for sure is when they start crowing or laying.

I feel the same way, Joe. It just kills me when I see beautiful barns just falling apart. What a waste, for sure, but lots of work also. So glad to hear you got your chickie on the road to recovery.

Aply... my silkies are 6 months and I am still not sure... silkies are tough to sex ! although we have some good experts on here, nothing is 100% until they lay or crow

Hi

Bf4m.... Dump?! LOL Looks pretty d@mn nice to me!

tiki &TO & Bf4m (and anyone else getting sick) Hope you all feel better soon!

CU all later!

Set 34 barnyard mix eggs in the Hovabator on Tuesday at school so we are hoping to hatch out a mess of eggs in three weeks. My little bantam cochin Reese PB Cup is doing a great job on her 8 eggs. Going to candle again on Friday Night to see what is viable.

So excited to get some quail from FT, I may have to set up some winter pens for them and keep them around all the time.

Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the time to hatch some chicks.

Bf4: nice pics and what a fun place!!! Can't wait to hear how you plan on setting up all the chicks!!!

Would anyone else be interested in adopting any of the hens in CA that were left to starve for 2 weeks? I donated, and rcvd a wonderful email back from the organization that is rescuing these hens. I asked if they were doing out of state adoptions and she said they were jsut discussing this as there have been a few inquiries. and she was asking for suggestions on the best way to transport? (One potential adoption home is in NC) She is asking how many she could safely transport in a cargo van as they dont want to pull a stock trailer. Anyone have any suggestions/input? And anyone else interested in adopting some of these?
